Heat-related deaths have almost doubled compared to last year. In response, AZ Blue is taking action. 👉 250 of the #heatrelief kits that AZ Blue built last month will be distributed in Pima County through the Tucson Collaborative Community Care TC3 to the Sister José Women's Center, City of Tucson Homeless Outreach Program, and Community Bridges. 👉 Yesterday 150 more kits went to the Yuma County Public Health Services District. Every step counts towards making our community a healthier place and we are proud to continue to provide heat relief assistance this summer. 💙 #summer #azsummer #yuma #yumaaz #azhealth

Unity Health Care stands with our unhoused neighbors in the wake of the Supreme Court's June 28 decision. This ruling, which permits the arrest and fining of individuals without homes for sleeping in public spaces, highlights the critical need for compassionate, comprehensive solutions to homelessness. At Unity, our mission has always been to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to all, especially those most vulnerable. We began as the Health Care for the Homeless Project nearly 40 years ago, and today, we continue to serve those experiencing homelessness through our shelters, mobile van, and medical respite sites. Criminalizing homelessness does not solve the issue. It exacerbates barriers to healthcare, housing, and safety. Unity joined the amicus curiae brief arguing against punitive measures and advocating for investments in supportive services. We believe in addressing homelessness with empathy and practical support, not with fines and jail time. Let's continue work together to ensure everyone has access to safe, dignified spaces and essential health services. #UnityHealthCare #EndHomelessness #HealthcareForAll #StandWithTheUnhoused #HealthEquity #CommunityCare #SupportNotPunishment

“We need to invest in these people who need help,” Bradford added. “If you give them a chance, they’ll surprise you, and they’ll do well.” - David Bradford. This is what David Bradford highlighted on the subject of homelessness. According to a recent article from Read the US News and World Report, ( in the news ) at News AKMI, a new study from the University of Georgia reveals that reducing homelessness by 25% could potentially save around 2,000 lives annually from opioid overdoses, along with hundreds of lives from alcohol and cocaine overdoses. This groundbreaking research highlights the significant impact of homelessness on substance-related deaths, emphasizing the urgent need for effective policies to address both issues. The surge in evictions, particularly following the pandemic, has further exacerbated homelessness, underscoring the critical need for comprehensive solutions. While eviction prevention is crucial, researchers emphasize the importance of addressing underlying housing issues and providing support to vulnerable populations. Ultimately, the study underscores the importance of pragmatic and compassionate policies to address homelessness and substance abuse, emphasizing the need for long-term investments in solutions that prioritize support and assistance for those in need. It’s interesting that none of the multimillion-dollar nonprofits in the homeless sector are investing in social video or YouTube. Instead, they cling to outdated, traditional communication strategies that maintain the status quo. https://lnkd.in/gFnqNTe7 Meanwhile, Iain De Jong is embracing YouTube and social video. How the world communicates has changed, and if we want to effectively reach people about homelessness and other social crises, we have to adapt. Big-budget nonprofits are posting videos, but they’re just not investing seriously in video strategies, which is why they’re not seeing results. The biggest challenge is that nonprofits need to create quality content that people actually want to watch. Posting videos isn’t enough—you have to engage the audience with compelling, well-produced content.
