Working in the DE&I space, this culture report on the Young Farmers Association is deeply disturbing 🤢 The acceptance of non-consensual acts, victim blaming and resistance to accountability within their events is appalling and when I was reading through the report, I was taken aback... What's glaringly evident is the lack of safeguarding policies, the outdated 'boys will be boys' mentality and the absence of support for victims who've bravely spoken up or left the association after incidents, without any questions or follow-up. It's crucial for these young farmers and their community to adopt trauma-informed care practices immediately. This is truly shocking. Have you seen this report? With young people accounting for largest percentage of the global population, they are becoming a driving force in advocating for a low-carbon and climate-resilient future. Their growing involvement in climate change initiatives showcases their transformative power of advocacy and action #ClimateAction

From 2007 to 2017, regulatory costs for small farmers in California skyrocketed by 795%. To advocate for small farmers, Shannon Douglass, the President of the California Farm Bureau, and I explored in depth how these regulations are really hurting small, local farms. Despite California's professed support for these farms, burdensome regulations often push them out of business. For example, the mandate to switch to electric forklifts imposes costs many small farms can't afford. Farmers also can't pass on increased costs due to competition with cheaper imports from countries with fewer regulations. Well-intentioned regulations often have unintended negative consequences. Shannon advocates for addressing these issues through: - The California Farm Bill - Water issues - Mill assessment increases - The insurance crisis affecting farmers Despite these challenges, Shannon's passion for agricultural advocacy shines through.
