Starliner's successful return without incident is a good result for everybody. Although some may want to paint this in a recriminating light against NASA's decision to send the capsule back without its crew, I don't think that's the proper perspective. I often say that leaders should derive their confidence in decision-making from clarity rather than certainty. It appears the lack of clarity about the numerous problems on this test flight is what eroded the confidence of NASA engineers and leadership as they considered the necessary and inevitable decision to put Butch and Suni at risk in one way or another. I wrote "necessary and inevitable" because risk is inherent in all options. They all realize that. But they were apparently clearer about the risks with Dragon than with Starliner at that point. Although both Boeing and NASA have had a rough time of it in recent months, I hope both see the opportunity to draw value from this test flight. The mission is over, but what happens next will determine the test flight's success. NASA made a good move by publicly reestablishing human safety as its top priority. Although the test flight failed to bring the test crew back, nobody got hurt, and no assets were damaged or destroyed. So, now, Boeing and NASA should work hard to prove they can "fail forward" successfully by getting clear on what happened and charting a course forward immediately. And although there's been a lot of speculation about whether Boeing will cut bait and pull out of the commercial crew program, I think this would be shortsighted and a lost opportunity to prove that working through problems is part of the game and what pros like Boeing do best. Throughout the last decade our collaborative team has been working hard to better understand the life history of the white shark in the western North Atlantic in order to better protect and manage this population. The puzzle of their life is nearly solved, and we are committed to collecting the final remaining data needed to do so. However, our priority this year is to begin a new piece of the Global White Shark Puzzle and study another white shark population in critical need of our help. In order to be best prepared for overseas travel and this next project we must cancel Expedition Northbound II. We have been in the shipyard tirelessly prepping the M/V OCEARCH for this expedition but unfortunately our routine maintenance and repairs have taken longer than expected. One of the biggest lessons our team has learned while working deep in the ocean, is that no matter how much we plan, we have to continue to learn, adapt and go with the flow. #ExpeditionsUpdate

The Titan Maritime crew recovering over 5000 lbs of ghost gear all at once as part of a project for DFO. Ghost gear, officially known as ALDFG (Abandoned, Lost or otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear) pose a significant risk to people and all marine life in an often endless cycle of death.
