Kurloo Technology is working with CSIRO and SmartSat CRC to conduct an exciting pilot project at the Googong reservoir to support satellite Earth observation product validation. Matt Garthwaite recently presented at the Locate24 conference, sharing findings from the project. The water level data captured by Kurloo are accurate, with measurements taken daily that correlate with the in-situ data, demonstrating millimetre-level accuracy and precision by Kurloo. Matt discussed the vital role of Earth observation calibration and validation activities, highlighting their importance for Australia engaging with international partners. These efforts are not only crucial for advancing our objectives in the geospatial industry, particularly in environmental risk mitigation, but they also position Australia as a key contributor to the global Earth observation value chain. Today we would like to take a look at the innovative work being done in Work Package 6 “The Europe-LAND Toolbox: Exploring the dynamics of future land use” of our Europe-LAND project and give you an insight into the work of Nikos Theodosiou, Zisis, Mallios, Eleni Fotopoulou, Afroditi Papageorgiou, Yiannis N. Kontos, Diamantis Karak, Charis Stavridis, Konstantinos Plataridis and Lysandros Katsifarakis from ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI (AUTh). 🔬Research Focus in Work Package 6: Our mission in WP6 is clear - to design, develop and operate a state-of-the-art web-based GIS platform.  This platform is a game changer, linking planned actions with their impacts based on current and future land use dynamics. 🗝Key features: - Web-based GIS platform: Built on the powerful Leaflet library. - Collaborative data: Integrates open source data from organisations such as Copernicus, ESDAC, ERA5 and others. - Interactive tools: Multiple tools for engaging with information and identifying key drivers of land use change. - Serious Gaming: A practical and user-friendly game to simulate different future land use/land cover scenarios. 🌳Why does it matter? Understanding the impact of planned actions on land use is crucial for sustainable development.
