🌱 How can a (young - am I still young?) #university Assistant Professor make a positive #impact? Here's an example from my experience: a) I integrated real #strategies for social innovation and social entrepreneurship, providing students with valuable insights into these critical areas. b) I invited Rethink Ireland as a #GuestSpeaker. They shared their strategies, challenges, and future opportunities with my students. Notably, they also presented an exciting internship opportunity. c) As a result, one of my #students applied for the internship and successfully secured the position. Takeaways: 1. 👨🏻🏫 Teach current and relevant strategies: Study and research what is pertinent to our society and bring that knowledge into the classroom. 2. 🔗 Connect with the world outside academia: Collaborate and invite guest speakers from industry experts to provide real-world opportunities. = win-win-win for academia, industry and students! It's rewarding to see the immediate positive impact on my students' careers and their contributions to social innovation!
🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟 I'm delighted to share that I have secured an internship as Social Impact Intern at Rethink Ireland! This role offers a unique opportunity to engage deeply in the impact investing sector, where I will conduct market research, evaluate investment opportunities, and develop financial models to assess and enhance social initiatives. This internship is a perfect complement to my MSc in Management Consultancy, allowing me to apply and expand my project management skills in a dynamic and impactful environment. A heartfelt thank you to Mario Vottero and Katia Ribeiro-Pulvenis for the smooth onboarding process and for guiding me throughout. I am also immensely grateful to Professor Giuliano Sansone, whose mentorship and guidance in the CIE class have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. I'm eager to contribute to a team dedicated to creating positive social change and look forward to the experiences and growth this opportunity will bring. #Internship #ImpactInvesting #RethinkIreland #ManagementConsultancy #ProjectManagement #SocialChange #ProfessionalGrowth #Grateful #CareerDevelopment

Aspiring AI & Machine Learning Engineer | Google Fellow - Break Through Tech AI | Backend Developer @ Routora | Former Software Engineering Intern @ Discover Financial Services | UTD Student Ambassador | Freshman Mentor
As I wrapped up my incredible summer internship at Discover Financial Services, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to the people who made this journey so memorable. First, a huge thank you to my manager, Eric Brown, for always being incredibly supportive and believing in my abilities. Your encouragement made a world of difference. To Larry Ruch, my mentor—thank you for guiding me through my project. Despite the challenges I faced, your patience and help were invaluable. And a big shoutout to Cordelia Hernandez and Markisha M., who have been with us interns since day one, helping us feel welcome and fostering a sense of community. I’m also so grateful to my amazing team for their constant support, my fellow interns for sticking together, and the Emerging Talent Team for organizing everything and providing us this opportunity. This was my first corporate experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with. One piece of advice I received that truly stuck with me: "In the early stages of your career, it’s understandable to prioritize financial growth and building your net worth. However, as you progress, it becomes essential to find a team where you feel truly at home. Remember, you spend as much time with your colleagues as you do with your family—40 hours a week, if not more. If you can’t be yourself around them, no amount of compensation will make it worthwhile." - Eric Brown For future interns, here’s what I’ve learned: - Failure is natural, so don't hesitate to ask for help. - Impact matters more than effort—focus on delivering results. - Networking is key—build strong relationships that will last beyond the internship. Thank you, Discover Financial Services, for making this summer unforgettable! #internship #softwareengineering #grateful #DiscoverFinancialServices #emergingtalent

I've seen two distinct mentorship structures in early career programs, and one seems to be a clear winner in my book. 1) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 '𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮': This is where we call for volunteers across the company. It's a bit of a wild ride, with mentors potentially guiding 1-5 interns from various functions. They get a wildfire of perspectives, as they get to learn from different areas of the company. 2) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 '𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿': This one's a bit more structured. To secure intern headcount, you need to assign a mentor from your direct team. It's like a buddy system that fosters accountability and team collaboration. Plus, it gives interns a safe space to ask those ‘silly’ questions they are nervous to ask their boss. Ultimately, the choice between a smorgasbord of perspectives or a tight-knit team experience might depend on what the company values more. In my experience, I have received way more positive feedback and positive mentor experience from option number two. What's your take? Hiring Managers, early in career professionals, and anyone who's ever been an intern - which structure would you prefer and why? Veris Insights #intern #internship

🎉Globish Intern Pitch Day 2024 🥳 . We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Intern Pitch Day at Globish! This event provided our talented interns with a platform to present their projects, pitch new ideas, and share their learning outcomes. Each intern showcased their achievements and discussed the challenges they faced, underscoring the invaluable lessons learned along the way. . A common theme in their presentations was the significant impact of our supportive and collaborative work environment, which empowered them to excel. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all supervisors for their guidance and to Troy Takarn Ananthothai and Chayut Jetjaroennukul for their valuable feedback and encouragement as guest commentators. . Our interns have grown tremendously through this experience, and Globish has equally benefited from their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. Thanks to my friends over at America On Tech, I had the wonderful opportunity to hire interns for Daraja Collective. It was an enriching experience that proved to be immensely beneficial for both Daraja and the interns. Here's how I found having interns to be mutually beneficial: Skill Development: While it's widely known that internship programs offer students or recent graduates valuable experience, what I didn't anticipate was how it would help me develop certain skills. For example, delegation. As someone prone to trying to do everything myself, having interns forced me to guide and empower others to take on tasks. Increased Productivity: With interns having an opportunity to utilize their expertise, I found myself with more time to focus on the tasks only I could do, leading to increased productivity. Fresh Perspectives: The interns brought in fresh perspectives. Their unique outlooks stimulated innovation and creativity within me. Overall, having interns helped me to hone qualities I wasn't aware I needed until I had to. If you're considering hiring interns, I highly encourage it. If you're in the tech industry, I recommend looking into America On Tech for top-tier interns. What's your experience with working with interns? Share your thoughts in the comments! Special Thank You to: Jessica Santana Evin Floyd Robinson III Brian Kirn and Maddie Toll #Interns #SmallBusiness #Productivity #AmericaOnTech
