We can develop a relationship with each emotion. The more in-depth that relationship is the more intentional we can be in how and when we express what is there. We breathe differently with each emotion because they exist in our body differently. Practice inquiring into your body about the sensations that accompany each emotion. How does it move within you? How is your breathing, posture, and facial expression? When? Where? Look back in your family history. What were the lessons? How do those lessons impact you now? New groups start every 4 weeks. How many times have you shared or secretly thought, "...I didn't do enough." Sometimes that thought exists because we have lead a life with high, maybe unrealistic, self-expectations. Sometimes those expectations have been ingrained in us from unhealthy patterns or people from our history. Sometimes those thoughts get tangled with real things going on in life right now.... and maybe sometimes those thoughts aren't real at all. But what about when there was really more you could have done? How do you begin to untangle those thoughts, behaviors, and feelings? Bryant-Davis, T., & Comas-Díaz, L. identified a series of coping strategies that center women’s experiences in their 2016 paper, “Introduction: Womanist and mujerista psychologies” 🧡💜💛 These strategies include: Breaking down stoicism and silencing of feelings, or openly expressing emotion unashamedly, actively using your support systems such as sisterhood, family, friends, spirituality/church, physicians, attorneys, etc., openly discussing financial and emotional security with trusted people, and discarding the desire to be perfect in every area of life - also known as the “superwoman syndrome.” Like this post ⬆️ and share it with someone you think can be encouraged! ✨
