I am happy to share that I have obtained training and certified on Rational use of medicine last week @ Adama. Globally, huge resources is lost due to inefficient management and irrational use of medicine and nationally, current prescribing and dispensing practice are below WHO standards. Irrational medicine use is a common problem that leads to poor quality health delivery which may put patients at risk and result in waste of scarce resources. #Having good supply chain managment and Good prescribing and dispensing practice #Good communication among health care professionals and patients #Detection and prevention and also recording and reporting of Adverse drug events and all health care professionals expected to report to ensure medication safety. #optimizing use of antimicrobials #Health facilities should evaluate Rational medicine use are important to promote Rational use of medicine. #Good prescribing and dispensing #Good supply chain #Rational use of medicine #ADE prevention #AMR prevention

Importance of Addressing Pharmaceutical-Laden Municipal Biosolids in Land Application Below is an article I wrote about the implications of applying municipal biosolids, which are heavily laden with pharmaceuticals, to land. This is a critical issue that often gets overlooked in discussions about biosolids management and responsible disposal. I believe it is essential to bring this topic to the forefront and address it effectively to ensure environmental safety and public health. Please Visit my website: www.xtra-air.com

North Americans Now Getting Less Exposure to Hidden Carcinogen 1,4-Dioxane after New York Law Creates Industry-Wide Change! NY’s law limiting 1,4-dioxane in personal care products is now in full effect and has created substantial change. 1,4-Dioxane is an emerging contaminant of concern found in drinking water throughout the nation. The EPA designates 1,4-dioxane as a likely carcinogen to humans. This “hidden carcinogen” is a byproduct of manufacturing and is not listed on labels. It has been contaminating drinking water and putting public health at risk for decades. With grants from the Henry Phillip Kraft Family Memorial Fund at The NY Community Trust, Citizens Campaign for the Environment (CCE) successfully advocated for a first-in-the-nation law mandating manufacturers remove 1,4-dioxane from products down to trace levels to protect our drinking water and public health. The NY legislation was driven by a CCE report which revealed independent testing results for several common household and personal care products. “The Long Island Community Foundation was instrumental in helping CCE with the 1,4 Dioxane campaign,” says Citizens Campaign for the Environment’s Executive Director, Adrienne Esposito. “Because of that campaign, industries across America are reformulating and producing products with dramatically less 1,4 Dioxane. That’s very exciting news and we are so grateful for their support of CCE.” Read the CCE’s latest 1,4-dioxane report. https://lnkd.in/ex6JKmEj

A controversial Indiana House bill, HB 1399, has ignited debates as it seeks to alter the definition of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) under state law to accommodate specific types of the toxic chemicals that manufacturers wish to continue using. While industry representatives argue for regulatory certainty, opponents express concerns about the potential health and environmental impacts linked to PFAS exposure. The bill raises questions about finding a balance between supporting essential uses like medical devices and safeguarding public health and the environment. How can policymakers navigate the delicate balance between supporting essential uses of PFAS, such as medical devices, and addressing health and environmental concerns associated with these toxic substances, ensuring that regulatory decisions are based on the latest scientific evidence and contribute to long-term public well-being? https://lnkd.in/deE7i_sr
Industry groups aim to change Indiana definition of PFAS, fear the toxic chemicals will be banned

On today’s episode of our series on the Environmental Impact of Antibiotics, we will consider what you, as an individual, can do to minimize the impact of antibiotic pollution on the environment. #AntibioticImpact #AMR #awareghana 1. Follow your healthcare professional's prescription exactly for antibiotics, not just for your health but also to reduce their environmental impact. 2. Properly dispose of all unused or expired medications through local collection programs. In Ghana, the FDA has the “Take Back Unwanted Medicine from Consumers" (TBUM) project, which aims to take back unused and expired medicines from consumers and dispose them off safely. 3. Dispose of medications in the trash by placing them in a sealed bag with an undesirable substance, like cat litter, and never flush any medication unless it's on the FDA's "flush list."
