Microsoft Build 2024: 6 takeaways for developers, data professionals https://lnkd.in/gfTxqiYr With AI and generative AI becoming the dominant theme for most enterprise software vendors at their annual conferences, Microsoft’s 2024 version of Build stuck to the norm. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the stage to summarize his keynote right at the beginning to say that the event was all about Copilots and the Copilot stack across most of the company's offerings. At the event, Nadella introduced a host of updates to Microsoft's cloud platform to make working with LLMs easier and added generative AI-based assistants to many of its offerings. Excited to be back in NYC next week for AWS Summit. Looking forward to meeting our customers and broader AWS community. A big portion of our customers have made bets with AWS and we are excited to help them in their journey with Data and AI. I expect a big focus of conversations around Gen AI. The AI initiatives in enterprises will drive more focus on data challenges upstream including data quality, hygiene and need to put guardrails around use of data all every level. AWS just wrapped up their Summit for Public Sector Partners in Washington D.C., and it was all about generative AI. Here are the key highlights: 💥 Gen AI was the main event, with a focus on 5 verticals: government, education, nonprofits, healthcare, and aerospace 💥 We've moved "past the experimentation phase" with gen AI and into the "beginning of the value stage" • Many partners have already invested in gen AI services • They're building their own offerings and consulting capabilities 💥 But gen AI wasn't the only topic - AWS had major announcements for managed service providers (MSPs) too: • New technical resources under the "Build" premise: - Build Essentials self-serve content - Build Workshops with AWS experts - Discounts on Skill Builder training • Ramped up marketing/sales support: - More marketing development funds - Co-branding opportunities to showcase AWS validation • Business Outcomes Accelerator (BOX) program going GA - Helps MSPs build solutions on AWS - Includes "matchmaking" events for partner collaboration 💥 AWS is also expanding their Partner Transformation Program with a new gen AI module after successful pilots • 2-day training on AWS gen AI services like Bedrock • Identify engineering knowledge gaps and use case ideation 💥 Real-world examples were inspiring: • Rackspace built a Bedrock assistant for a CA govt call center • Accenture created a lesson planning tool for 2M students • AWS helped build a healthcare digital assistant The public sector cloud journey is still early, but AWS is making big investments to drive innovation through partners and gen AI capabilities. Exciting times ahead!

AWS Summit London 2024 was a real eye opener. With the massive crowds and the majority of sessions being around GenAI it shows the huge growth in this technology sector. Logistically organizing an in person event on this scale is huge so big thanks to the team behind that. The key take away for me was that RAG, Vector Search, Graph databases and perhaps most significantly Agents (now in Amazon Bedrock) are now becoming mainstream topics and commodities. Connecting services like Amazon Q for Business to data sources like SharePoint bring AI across vendors, while deeper integrations between products like OpenSearch and Amazon Personalize show these services are maturing to provide sophisticated experiences. Exciting times.
