Below is a great share by Mark Nevins about how to balance work while on vacation. With respect to Harvard Business Review I’d offer a few additions: 1. Put your phone on DND. If someone calls twice (and they will if it’s urgent) it will ring through. This will reduce the notification-temptation. 2. If you know there’s a risk you’ll need to do something work related while on vacation, just stay behind. Don’t go on the whale-watch/fishing charter/hike/bike - or whatever the activity is. This forces you to make a real choice/sacrifice for your work (and most of the time you’ll regret it) and it also makes sure you don’t ruin the excursion for your family. And 3., my personal favorite, don’t be silly. There’s virtually nothing work related that can’t be moved if you really wanted to. But most people won’t go to that effort - they’d rather feel important than fully unplug and be present for themselves and their loved ones. Idk why, but probably the “work hero who is just so important” ego at play here. #worklifebalance
I'll be out later this month for my annual two-week sabbatical (read, write, family time) but this year I do have a few client commitments I can't fully step away from. I was delighted to discover this excellent pragmatic article by Elizabeth Grace Saunders which provided me (and maybe you too?) with a few tips I'll definitely be putting into play. https://lnkd.in/euMqdKjz
