How to maintain morale of your veterinary team? Are you concerned team morale is low in your veterinary business? Vets, veterinary nurses and support staff are the life blood of your business and it is imperative to maintain motivation and morale. To appraise morale, look for clues in staff behaviour. Has energy in the clinic dropped? Are staff relationships fractured? Have there been more errors and/or a drop in quality of work? Is there less communication from your team and a drop in desire to share opinions? Has employee retention dropped? Multiple internal and external stressors can impact team spirit. Demotivating factors include lack of recognition, poor communication, unfavourable client interactions, high levels of stress or workload, poor rostering with insufficient breaks, unclear job expectations and lack of advancement or continuing education opportunities. There are factors within management’s influence to positively improve staff morale. Demonstrate to the team how management is engaged to improve working conditions. This might include sharing appropriate recruitment updates if short staffed, modifications to workload or rostering, plans for equipment upgrades and maintaining zero tolerance for inappropriate client behaviour. Increase communication with all staff members. Encourage employees to ask questions and share ideas during staff meetings. Support collaboration within the team. Listen and then listen some more to what staff have to say. Provide feedback opportunities both to and from employees. Demonstrate gratitude and appreciation daily. Recognise the efforts of your staff and value their work and input. Invest in growth and professional development. Be actively involved in supporting and encouraging career progression. Regularly review remuneration and employment agreements. Be transparent about future opportunities for progression. High-morale vets, veterinary nurses and support staff are energetic, resilient team players who show initiative, love their job and learning, and know how to balance work and life. They bring positive energy to work and support their colleagues when things get difficult. These employees are internally motivated and will present their best selves to your customers and their pets. #vetlife #vetsurgery #vetcareers #vetmedicine #smallanimalvet #veterinarylife #Vet #vets #Vetcareers #veterinaryclinics #vetjobs #veterinary #veterinaryjobs #vetjob

"Ever wondered what it’s like to be a superhero for animals? 🦸♀️🦸♂️ Well, let me introduce you to the world of a Veterinary Technologist! 🐶🐱🐰 As a Veterinary Technologist, I’m like a Swiss Army knife in the world of animal healthcare. I wear many hats, and each one is as exciting as the next! 🎩👒🎓 Hard Skills 🧰🔬: Pet Care: From poodles to parrots, I ensure our furry (and feathery) friends are in tip-top shape! 🐩🦜 Surgical Assistance: I’m the right-hand man… or woman… or person… to the vet during surgeries. Scalpel, please! 🔪 Medication Administration: I’m like a barista, but instead of making lattes, I’m preparing and administering medications! 💊 Radiology: X-ray vision might be Superman’s thing, but I can interpret X-rays like a pro! 🦴 Soft Skills 🧸🎈: Communication: I speak ‘human’ and ‘animal’. Well, not literally, but I do bridge the gap between veterinarians, pet owners, and our patients! 🗣️ Empathy: I’ve got a heart as big as a lion’s… for lions, and all other animals! ❤️ Organization: Juggling tasks is my superpower. I could probably work in a circus. 🎪 Customer Service: I’m the ‘purr-fect’ person to make our clients feel comfortable and informed. 🐾 So, next time you see a Veterinary Technologist, remember, we’re not just ‘playing with puppies’ (although that is a nice perk!). We’re on a mission to keep your pets healthy and happy, one wagging tail at a time! 🐕🦺🐈⬛ #VeterinaryTechnologist #AnimalHealthcare #JobDescription"

📣 Attention Veterinary Practices and Hiring Managers 📣 Today marks the beginning of Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week (October 15th-21st), and it's a timely moment to address a pressing concern highlighted in a recent dvm360 article: the underpayment and underutilization of our certified, licensed, or registered veterinary technicians. This underutilization is directly linked to job dissatisfaction, oftentimes even more so than underpayment. Here's our call to action for this pivotal week: 1️⃣ Hire Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technicians: Their unparalleled expertise ensures top-notch care for our pets and an efficient workflow. 2️⃣ Distinguish Between Technicians and Assistants: Acknowledge the difference in training, skills, and responsibilities. Proper identification not only validates a technician's role but ensures the right task allocation. 3️⃣ Empower and Compensate Fairly: Maximize the skills of our technicians, give them the platform to excel, and ensure they're compensated as they deserve. Let's use this Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week to lead the way in truly recognizing the immense value of our veterinary technicians, ensuring they are well-appreciated, effectively utilized, and rightfully compensated. https://lnkd.in/gzru8Ryn #VeterinaryCare #TechnicianEmpowerment #ValueInSkills #HiringRight #VetTechAppreciationWeek

From my days as a vet nurse, I vividly remember the unending bustle – the phones ringing off the hook, managing appointments, and the constant juggling act. It was a labour of love, but it often came at the cost of personal time and well-being. Now, after 5 years of being at Vetstoria my heart still beats in unison with every veterinary receptionist and nurse out there. I understand the thin line between passion for work and the necessity of a well-balanced life. Vetstoria is more than just a tool; it's a lifeline I wish I had back then. It streamlines appointment scheduling and reduces the daily chaos, gifting back hours that can be spent on self-care or with loved ones. Vetstoria isn't just about making your job easier; it's about giving you the space to breathe, to live, and to enjoy the moments outside your compassionate work. Remember, taking care of yourself is part of taking care of others. Let's embrace a future where work-life balance isn't just a concept, but a daily reality. ❤️ Image below is of me caring for my lovely cat Henry as he battled kidney issues. He is well now and back to his mischievous self! :) #veterinary #vetlife #automation #wellbeing #onlinebooking

Leadership Trainer @ Veterinary Practice Partners | Mental Health Advocate | VetMed Hype Man | Fueled by Passion | Driven by Purpose | Retired Marine | Combat Veteran | “Everything I know, I learned from Dogs”
Looking through photos I have taken over the last few months, something struck me... Most of these photos were taken at different veterinary hospitals in different locations... Different jobs, job titles, roles, responsibilities, certifications, education, etc... Different genders, sexual orientations, religions, political parties, generations, etc... But the commonality between all these photos is that despite our differences, the incredible humans in #veterinarymedicine unite around their passion for animals, the humans that care for them, and the people on their teams. When you look at these photos...Veterinary Medicine is NEVER about one individual. It isn't a DVM, Practice Manager, Veterinary Technician, Vet Assistant, Customer Service Rep, Kennel assistant, or any other position in a hospital. Veterinary Medicine is a COMMUNITY. Veterinary Medicine is a TEAM. No matter what position you "play" on the field, we all have to do our job so that the entire team can be successful... I am proud to be a part of the Veterinary Practice Partners team and serve our incredible hospital teams in any way that I can... But I am also proud to be part of the #VetMed industry, and to do everything I can to make our ENTIRE community, better. "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." #VeterinaryPracticePartners #VPP #togetherweRISE #bebetter
