You’ve heard of accessibility when it comes to housing, but did you know that housing inclusivity is just as important? Housing Inclusivity: Housing that is safe, affordable, physically accessible, close to activities, amenities, and services and welcoming of all people within diverse and dispersed mixed- income developments, structures, and neighbourhoods. Inclusive housing is safe, affordable, and accessible – but it is also dispersed. Action Required: Adopt and implement this definition of housing inclusivity in the provincial housing strategy and ensure this is applied in all future housing development decisions. This is a good article. Tall can be good if carefully planned/located, well designed and specified. But more importantly is what it comprises, how it meets local housing needs, how it supports as opposed to divide and dominate communities.

An interesting retrospective look at how social housing developments of the past were envisioned and how those visions panned out. Clearly we need to learn from the lessons and despite having architectural plaudits, these developments failed from a sustainability perspective. Not an easy fix in dense urban areas, where land costs are at a premium and poverty is widespread. #socialhousing #ukproperty #propertyinvestment

With the NSW Government releasing new housing targets for Sydney LGAs, and some communities opposing the scale of proposed development, I'm reminded of our (with Donna Houston & Marco Amati) previous work on community opposition to housing targets/urban consolidation. Published 12 years ago(!), we explored the diverse types and objectives of resident action groups in Ku-ring-gai, opposing housing targets included in the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy (2007). On the one hand, the NIMBY moniker can hide the diversity of resident positions and delegitimize concerns about planning processes and local democracy. On the other hand, the desire to limit perceived negative impacts of new development on existing residents (such as property values) motivates others. New housing supply is required. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in coming years. https://lnkd.in/gg2ibur4
