As most of you will have noticed, I’m not very proactive on most social media platforms, never mind LinkedIn.
The recent riots have had a profound impact, both professionally and personally. I’ll focus on the former and ask if you can please share message below, especially with your creative and cultural sector contacts and networks.
In the last few weeks, England has grappled with a significant rise in far-right extremism, racist violence, anti-immigration feeling, and Islamophobic attacks. Subsequently, a number of meetings have taken place, both in Middlesbrough and in Bradford to discuss the impact of these riots.
Whilst some have attempted to attribute the riots to the horrific murder of three children, it is evident that these events have threatened the very fabric of our diverse society and now demand an urgent, robust, and thoughtful response from all sectors, particularly the arts and culture community.
In response to significant demand, we have organised Beyond Hate - a series of three opportunities for artists, and the arts and culture sector to capture experiences, ideas and culture led solutions to the rising hate in our communities. The evidence and ideas gathered at these events will be shared with cultural leaders, funders, and institutions across the cultural sector.
The events are scheduled for 5th, 6th, and 9th September. Further details and registration instructions can be found at https://lnkd.in/eufbMzA5
Please share as appropriate, we hope you will be able to join us and contribute to these important conversations as we continue to support our communities to recover and heal.
