Even before the budget is announced, we can safely assume the following from #startup perspective: - There will be no visible incentive in it to do more deals or offer better valuations. - There will be nothing to reward innovation. - There will be no attempt to democratize getting startup deals beyond select pedigrees. Still things will look up from startups, because even this explosion of unicorns, wide number of deals, shark tank craze - they are driven by forces of nature. Governments are naturally against things out of their control but they just dont want to tell you to your face.

We had a very interactive panel on IP Management in the Start-up Ecosystem from perspectives of investors, universities, established companies and technology transfer professionals. Our audience shared war stories too. Key take-aways: having patents makes time-to-funding faster for start-ups, but patents should not be just pieces of paper (and cost) - company needs to plan the use of the patent. Ensuring sufficient rights to IP is important, especially is complex university innovation ecosystems. #LESI2024
