As a corporate member of The Tutors’ Association, I am so pleased to see John and others shining a light on the Tutoring industry. This broadcast raised some really useful and key points, and it makes me feel very proud to be a member. Since the pandemic, many people have set themselves up as tutors, and consequently, it has become really hard for parents to know where to look and who to trust. Keeping our students safe is our top priority. So, what do we do to keep your child safe? - Only use qualified teachers, and we check their certificates. - Tuition only happens in a student's home, online or in a school setting - never in a tutor's home. We also require someone over the age of 18 to be present for the duration of the lesson. - We require a minimum of 2 professional references. We also use a system that verifies the source of the reference to irradicate false references. - Enhanced DBS - Tutors DBS is currently checked every 6 months, and we are moving over to daily checking within the next month. We conduct prohibition checks to identify whether a teacher has had any sanctions against them while teaching. This would not show on a DBS check unless it was a police matter; however, it may be something that would make them unsuitable to work with a student. - We only use Tutors in the UK who have a secure and deep understanding of the UK curriculum. #tutoringservices #learning #Education https://lnkd.in/ec_4XWDA

The politicization of #schoolsafety and its accompanying noise levels may very well be why progress on school safety has stalled, not advanced. The first step to cut through the noise is for #superintendents, #schoolboards, #principals, and other #schoolleaders to recognize the depth and intensity of politics that exists around #schoolshootings and school safety. Once recognized, they must then be educated consumers of school safety information and extremely critical thinkers who are laser-focused on research and best practices, while leaving the political noise behind. Advancing policy and funding for meaningful #schoolsecurity depends upon it. More in my latest blog: https://zurl.co/SXBK

Good article Sir - the question regarding, "Are we a society now where our leaders will only understand the magnitude of a school shooting if they personally walk through a “blood-stained” building, as the news headline read?" My answer is no - if it were only that easy. If 21 murdered kids at Sandy Hook Elementary School isn't enough to make meaningful progress for school safety and security, then I don't know what will. To no avail, I have been trying to push the idea that school security needs to be mandated and include these five proposed requirements: All schools should have - District Security Manager, Updated Safety & Security Policy and Procedures, Internal Threat Teams, Trained SRO’s or SSO’s and finally Independent security audit every 3 years. We haven't had a significant school fire in over 62 years because we have sound life safety codes -it's time to have the same for security.
