I'm here to make your health communications be as strong as your morning coffee, and if you are struggling I can advise you on what to eat to perform at your best
Yesterday morning I was invited to present to my networking group, BEST Business Group Surrey I shared my knowledge and advice on navigating our food environment to choose foods that are beneficial to health. ________________ Our food environment has progressively worsened over the past few decades as we have become more time poor with entire households typically being out of the house working for most of the day. We reach for the easy, while not knowing what this is doing to our health in the longer term. Multinational food corporations fill our supermarket shelves with enticingly packaged and marketed foods - often claiming to be full of health benefits, which also appeal to our taste buds, our lack of time and our pockets. Unfortunately much of it is ultra processed ‘food-like’ products, which do nothing for our gut microbiome and research shows have a negative on our health including obesity, diabetes and other metabolic disease, depression and low mood, memory loss and cognitive decline. Put simply, our biology doesn’t recognise it as food and the more we eat processed foods, the more we are depriving ourselves of essential nutrients needed for healthy living. _________________ I shared ways to recognise ultra processed foods in the supermarket, and tips to avoid them: 🍓 Swap fruit yoghurts for plain Greek yoghurt with real fruit added 🥞 Swap ultra processed breakfast cereals or breakfast biscuits and bars for pre-prepared overnight oats or pre-cooked drop pancakes (which you can freeze and reheat when needed) 🥕 Choose frozen or tinned fruit and veg that will last longer and can be used portion by portion to save money and waste while still getting the health benefits 🥦 Add a green salad or a side of green vegetables alongside any lunch or dinner 🥘 Learn some simple batch cook meals that you can prepare on a weekend, portion up to freeze and reheat for mid-week 'ready' meals. To age more healthily we need to spend a little bit extra care and time on choosing less ultra processed foods and taking pride in the food we eat.
Our bodies cannot cope. Anna Gray presented to us at BEST Business Group Surrey today, sharing the sad fact, that our bodies cannot cope and digest the carbonated, sweetened and highly processed foods we have, today. We don't hunt and fish #seasonally in our nomadic family lives in the Palaeolithic Era. Individually, we don't all keep animals for food or grow our own #vegetables as our elders did in the Agricultural Revolution. The production of #food for the migration from the villages to towns in the Industrial Revolution meant that there was easy processed food, which had consequences of metabolic disease. ''#Nourish your body, to feel the best you can be'' Clever branding and constant promotion attract the audience to cheap, easy, convenient and UNHEALTHY foods. ''In terms of impact on our #health, the next generation will view ultra-processed food in the same way that cigarettes and tobacco are viewed now'' ***This is a LOUD warning to us all*** The presentation was interesting and educational and Anna left us with some tips. 1) Check the #ingredients. The less, the better. 2) If you don’t recognise the ingredients, the ‘chemical-sounding’ names, walk away. 3) #Fresh food, does not have a long shelf life. Anna’s mission, is to #inspire and #educate you to #achieve your lifestyle potential, through a no-nonsense diet and lifestyle advice. This week, some of our T garage Strategy & Research sensory practitioners had a fantastic time immersing themselves in the world of “natural” products at the annual Naturally Good Expo at the ICCC in Sydney. Our team, typically found asking Australians to rate food products, had the chance to be the evaluators for a change! The expo showcased many exciting new products, with a strong focus on fewer ingredients and naturally sourced ingredients. Catherine Gair, our Head of Consumer and Sensory Research, remarked, “It was great to see so many Australian start-ups, with lots of delicious snacks and meals from South Australia and Queensland in particular.” Some of the standout trends included: - Beverages with benefits and naturally sourced ingredients, particularly those featuring South American plant-based energy products - The continued prominence of organic and fair-trade offerings - The expansion of vegan products, including oat milk chocolate and mushroom powder-based hot beverage mixes - Gut health products, including prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics - Fun, healthier treats with clean ingredients and/or less added sugar - Food as supplements And our favourite new product was… Dog Yog – a beautifully packaged frozen dog treat (not that we actually ate any!). #sensoryresearch #naturallygood #NG24 #tgarage

2moIf you have trouble digesting beans, buy them dry and soak them in water overnight before cooking them, in order to remove their oligosaccharides, just like people do in the blue zones. Canning beans is the wrong way round - these are cooked then soaked.
