Don't expat alone. After relocating to Denmark, I actively participated in various networking events and engaged in volunteer work. And through these activities, I was able to establish a network, gain opportunities, make friends and get insights into expat life in Denmark. Valuable stuff. Networking is particularly important for expats as it helps them to: ✔️ Build a support system ✔️ Access professional opportunities ✔️ Integrate into the local culture ✔️ Learn the language ✔️ Expand their social circle ✔️ Gain local insights ✔️ Exchange experiences with fellow expats Conclusion: Especially when you’ve just moved to your new country as an expat, but also when you've lived in your new country for some time.... Don't expat alone. Network. 👉 Who's with me on this one? All the best, Martijn Koekkoek Everybody Networks Here #expatlife #expats #expat #networking

✨ Overcome your loneliness abroad 🔥 German expat & loneliness expert ✍🏻 Book a free consultation call to find out how I can help you to overcome your loneliness
Avoid this big mistake when making friends 👇🏻 As expats we tend to leave everything behind when we move abroad which means we have to start from scratch. Find a new apartment, job, hobby, hairdresser, doctor and of course FRIENDS Making friends requires time and effort so we tend to focus our energy on building a connection with only a few new people. And that's okay. But what might happen is that the connection you've built with that one person fades away - maybe they move, get pregnant, get promoted or whatever it might be But the bottom line is: the connection might come to an end 👀 So now you've focused so much on building a friendship with one person, that you haven't gotten any other connections or friendships And you have to start from scratch again! So don't put your eggs in 1 basket I'm not suggesting to focus on more than 3 people because that would mean that you're spreading yourself too thin But my suggestion is to focus on building friendships with 2-3 people at the same time, because well you never know what the future holds . . . #startingfromscratch #startingover #startingoveragain #newfriendships #newfriendship #makingnewfriends #eggsinonebasket #expatliving #expatfamily #movingabroad #livingabroad #expatproblems #expatissues #internationals #travellerlife #lonelytraveller #lonelytraveler #lonelyexplorer #lonelinessawarenessweek #expatcoach #friendshipcoach

I’ve just returned from an unforgettable family holiday in Greece! 🌞🏛️ From the stunning beaches to the rich history, every moment was pure magic and exactly what the doctor ordered. What made it even more special was the incredible people we met along the way. I always seem to make a lot of friends on holiday because I believe in the power of a friendly smile, a positive attitude, and fully throwing myself into every activity and adventure. This trip was a wonderful reminder of how these same qualities are essential in the business world. Building meaningful connections, embracing new experiences, and maintaining a positive outlook can make all the difference in our professional lives. Whether it's networking at a conference, collaborating on a project, or tackling a new challenge, these principles apply universally. As we dive back into our work routines, let's bring a bit of that Greek sunshine and spirit with us. Approach each day with enthusiasm, be open to new opportunities, and remember that a friendly demeanor can open doors and create lasting relationships. It’s why I respond to every message that I receive (even though at least 80% are from offshore tech businesses 🤣) because you never know when you can help someone or they could help you I also try to meet with just about every person that is relevant to fintech, affiliate marketing and consumer finance. Our industry is hard graft at the moment, so it’s important we support each member another. Here's to applying the lessons from our travels to our careers and making every day an adventure! #BackToBusiness #Networking #PositiveVibes #WorkLifeBalance #NewConnections #GreeceAdventures #BusinessLessons #TravelInspired #TeamBuilding

I empower the bold to find their own authentic journey abroad | Relocation & Travel expert | TEDxZurich | Pentalingual HR Consultant & Trainer | Redesign your Life
Reactions from family and friends when you announce you're moving abroad - part 2 The guilt-inducer Some family and friends might attempt to make you feel guilty about your decision, emphasising the potential impact on them or using emotional manipulation to dissuade you from #movingabroad. The supporter Then there are those who see the relocation as a positive adventure and express support, encouragement, and excitement with a mix of healthy envy. The worrier Others may express genuine concern about the challenges and uncertainties associated with moving to a new country. They might worry about your well-being and cultural adjustments. The indifferent Not everyone may have a strong emotional reaction to the news. Some acquaintances may be more indifferent, or simply not take your decision seriously. The cheerleader And then there are your unconditional supporters: those who ecstatically share in your enthusiasm and feel pride in your decision to pursue opportunities abroad. They are overly excited to see you taking bold steps toward personal and professional growth and they express confidence in your ability to navigate the challenges of #relocation. Remember: Reactions are subjective and often depend on their own experience, personality and perspective, and people may need time to process the information. It's important to communicate openly with your loved ones, addressing their concerns, and sharing your own excitement and plans for the future. While not everyone may fully understand or agree with your decision right away, fostering open and honest communication can help maintain positive relationships during this significant #lifechange. Share with your friends and family if you recognised them.

Simplifying Marketing Strategies for Entrepreneurs & Businesses @Strategaze | Focused on Delivering Meaningful, Achievable Results | Ethics and Well-Being Driven
Almost two years ago, I landed in Poland 🇵🇱 - my first time living abroad for work. Yet, now, I have to say goodbye. I never knew, when I booked that ticket, if I would ever return. Or where life could bring me. But it seems that all things come to an end. That, in a few days, I'll be heading back to Greece 🇬🇷 - at least, for now, as I will be looking for my next role. It was a challenging, painful journey. Not everything went according to the plan. Not everything ended the way I would have wished for it to end. Yet, I am grateful - as those two years shaped who I am, like no years before them. Gifting me memories and experiences of a lifetime that I'll cherish forever. As this is LinkedIn, it might be considered too personal for the platform. I disagree; life's life. And life is far from only being about successes, profits, and benefits. I always hoped for this medium to become more real, and this post reflects that. So I hope this might reach and inspire you - no matter if you're on your highs or lows. Especially if you were ever thinking of moving abroad or have just become an expat: I suggest you go through this. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this. One chapter ends in my career and personal life. But another will follow soon. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dbHq_sD2 #LivingAbroad #Reflections #LifeAdvice #Resilience #OpenToWork

9 reasons why you should experience an expat life: 1. Life is short, so explore the world while you can. Living abroad gives you a chance to experience different cultures and perspectives that can enrich your life. 2. It doesn't have to be a permanent move, it’s an adventure. You can always return home or move somewhere else. It’s about the journey, not the final destination. 3. Chasing your dreams isn’t selfish, it's empowering. You don’t have to live by someone else’s expectations. Living abroad can help you prioritize your own goals. 4. You’re stronger than you think. Navigating new environments, languages, and systems may be challenging, but you’ll discover resilience you never knew you had. 5. Reinvention is the essence of expat life. Moving abroad gives you the opportunity to redefine yourself, both personally and professionally. 6. Living in a new country can open unexpected doors. Being in a different environment can create opportunities you might never have encountered back home. 7. Your network will grow internationally. Living as an expat allows you to build connections across borders, broadening both your personal and professional circles. 8. There’s no need to be perfect, just adaptable. You don’t need to have all the answers. Learning and adapting along the way is what makes the experience worthwhile. 9. You don’t have to start big, just make the move. Moving abroad can feel overwhelming, but taking small steps and embracing the unknown will lead to clarity over time. → What would you add as number 10? All roads indeed lead to Rome! - saying goodbye to Vietnam and heading to Italy, I thought about pros and cons of expat life. International career excites many with its opportunities, but also scares with uncertainties and changes. The pros are well known and are all about diverse experiences. The cons are less obvious - and this is what scares people. People know its not all rosy, but often dont really understand possible traps - and its the unknown that worries you. Having another long flight I thought about my top 10 "cons" of going international. At the end, having international career is a fantastic experience - as long as you know and ready for few bumps you may experience along the way. 1. You experience a lot of different cultures, but you rarely become a true local. Rather you still live in a bubble of expat neighborhoods, cafes and shops. You also typically connect much more to other expacts than to locals. Not even because of cultures differences, but because local people dont necessarily need too many new friends 2. Your social circle keeps changing. The moment you believe you settled in a new place and established your new social circle, people start to move and you are back to square zero 3. You can live in many great places but you need to be ready that its almost for sure that you will never return to the same company and country from where you started 4. You get disconnected with people from your past. Not only that you are never there, but your life is too different and often people just "dont get you" 5. Moving to a new place is exciting at first, but than it becomes mixed with a pain of leaving people you connected to; the more you move, the more is the baggage of broken connections. Being just one email" away is still largely a myth 6. You are constantly filing taxes, often in more than one place. You also learn a lot about legalization and apostiles as having your documents admitted abroad is a pain 7. You miss "your house" and "your things" as even if you get a great housing, there would always be compromises, like a wrong sofa, firm matress, etc. 8. Holidays are a constant dillema - go home, visit family and friends or travel to beach, sightseeing, etc. 9. It's harder for your spouse / partner. While you have your new work, which keeps you busy and colleagues to socialize with, she is at home and bored and typically struggling to find a proper new job. Your relations might get under pressure especially during first months: after a boring day she is waiting for you to come, to talk, to go out while you are tired and just want to watch Netflix 10. You are the last one to learn any office gossip and you pay more for everything. Often even the most basic things that you are used to (like food) could be exotic and expensive in your new location. But also as you just dont know the right places to go, you end up going to more expensive places as some guarantee of right choice. What was your experience?
