Learning Spaces for well-being? Here we are in 2024, and our kids are stressed out, depressed and anxious. We can and should talk about all the factors that feed into that, but the hard fact that we should all give some serious thought to is, that according to Pew Research, 94% of teens believe anxiety and depression are concerns among their peers, with 70% describing those issues as major concerns....Let that sink in. Our kids and their teachers, spend half their waking lives in school. What can we do to help make that school time more hopeful, more helpful, more beneficial? There are so many brilliant educators and researchers looking at every aspect of teaching and learning, and I have no doubt that the well being and success of teachers and students is at the forefront of those considerations. Those of us who work to guide and create learning spaces should also be laser focused on the health, happiness, and success of teachers and students. Schools aren't just spaces where teaching and learning happens. That space matters, and we should never stop trying to raise the bar for the spaces we provide. We can and should do better.
