Talk about durability, usefulness, and beauty.
As students head #backtoschool, we are spotlighting spaces that enhance the educational experience. Career technical education (CTE) offers students hands-on learning experience and applied knowledge to help them succeed in future careers and academics. While CTE programs are often associated with high school curriculum, the new #ChapmanMiddleSchool design includes numerous laboratories to support the school's "exploratories"—elective tracks that focus on modern, STEAM-driven paths in career technical education. The labs house programs ranging from culinary arts and broadcast media to robotics and fabrication, providing introductory facilities and equipment that make career technical education accessible at the middle school level and inspire life-long passions as students progress to Weymouth High School, which offers a robust career technical curriculum. https://lnkd.in/eKfsKC8X 📸: Ed Wonsek Artworks

One year ago, I stepped into the role as President and CEO of DeVry University, a place I’ve been proud to call home for 20 years. This past year has been nothing short of transformative—not just for me, but for the university and for everyone who became part of our learning community. Those who know me know that I've always believed in the power of education to change lives, but this year brought that belief into sharper focus. Every decision made has been driven by one question: How can we better serve both students and partners? From launching new AI courses at lightning speed to maintaining our commitment to affordability, it’s been a year of listening, learning, and relentless action. In a recent Q&A, I shared more about what this year has taught me: the importance of transparent communication, the urgency of innovating at pace, and the ongoing challenge of breaking down barriers to education. It reinforced the importance of looking ahead—balancing the demands of today while making decisions that shape our future and position DeVry for what's next. Our work is far from over which is why I am more energized than ever for what's to come. If you’re interested in hearing more about my reflections, I invite you to take a look at the full Q&A. At Hopscotch, we cultivate a balanced approach to education by blending autonomy with guidance 🙌 Each child receives a personalized academic plan designed to empower them. We integrate subjects, encouraging systems thinking, which enables students to view education as an integral part of their personal journey rather than separate from it. Let's take a closer look at our approach: 1⃣ Large Group Presentations Teachers utilize interactive lectures and demonstrations in the classroom to introduce new concepts, spark discussion, and foster a sense of community. 2⃣ Small Group Activities Collaborative learning in smaller groups with 2-4 people promotes teamwork and provide opportunities for students to learn from one another. 3⃣ Individualized Lessons Teachers tailor weekly lesson plans to meet the unique needs, learning style and pace of each student. 4⃣ Real-Life Learning Experiences Practical, hands-on activities are integrated into lessons to make learning more relatable and applicable in everyday life. 5⃣ Project-Based Learning Students engage in meaningful projects that aid in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 6⃣ Student Notebooks & Portfolio Development Students maintain records of their learning progress, reflections, and achievements. As a result, our students acquire more than just knowledge; they become self-motivated to learn! #hopscotchmontessorischool #montessori #montessorischool #montessorieducation

School Improvement Grant (SIG) and Transformation Rashid Ferrod Davis’s leadership-member of P-TECH’s design team and role as founding P-TECH principal showcases the significance of having a vision that goes beyond the traditional exercise of power. By focusing on creating opportunities for underserved communities Davis has shown how vision can lead to transformative change. MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success: Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. Founding Principal at Pathways in Technology Early College High School 2011, Cahn Fellow 2012, Fordham University GSE 1st Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient 2019
Can you believe it? From just an idea in 2010, Pathways in Technology Early College High School has now expanded to a whopping 28 countries, 13 states and this month California joins Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Rhode Island and Texas with P-TECH college graduates. P-TECH has been transforming education and empowering young minds since its inception. By bridging the gap between high school, college, and the workforce, P-TECH is revolutionizing the way we prepare our future leaders for success. And guess what? MDRC now has produced P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success from the 7 P-TECHs in NYC Department of Education The results speak for themselves....... "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant". Passionate and highly experienced K-12 educator, leader, and visionary with a purpose-driven, evidence-based mission to build a world with equitable opportunities for all.
I could NOT be more pumped for the work, design and growth Black Boys in Tech, Families Forward and the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative (University of Cincinnati, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services at the University of Cincinnati) are investing and building as we works towards a holistic, engaging, and cross curricula-focused, long term STEM continuum and after school programs into Cincinnati’s K12 schools. I visited Withrow High School (Cincinnati Public Schools) and the project they are working on is incredible. This was the first day of their final project for the year. We will continue working on this over the last 1.5 months of school, as these students apply: 1.) Critical thinking and planning skills related to today’s real life needs for our growing tech-focused future 2.) Utilizing and implementing the Scientific method and exploration (trial and error) strategies to problem solve and deliver successfully based on the scenario they picked and the step-by-step process 3.) Building and flying of their drones, accompanied by eventual 3D printing components to accompany their drone creation objective It is pretty wonderful to be a part of this team pursuing, implementing and designing equitable, exciting, and crucial opportunities to enable real equitable access and bright futures for ALL students! #STEM #Cincinnati #UniversityofCincinnati #TechClubs #BBIT #GCSC #CurriculumDesign #Education #Equity
