Superfans are the future of the #musicindustry because they drive significant revenue and create lasting connections with artists. As streaming growth has plateaued, #labels are shifting their focus to superfans who spend more on music, merchandise, and exclusive experiences. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge have highlighted the value of creating direct artist-superfan products and experiences and both recognise this as a key direction to move towards. They are moving past streaming platforms for artists right now. This doesn't mean the end to steaming platforms, if just means they probably end up as the place to release music last, rather than first. With more #artists and managers questioning if they should release new music on streaming things are changing fast and for the better in my opinion. There's a sea shift and it's happening quickly. The growth area has moved to #superfans. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Is it a good thing or bad thing for the business of making music?

I’ve spent the last 2 years solely focused on the problems around current music streamers and within the music industry and examining how tech can help solve these issues. Yes, the pay model to rights holders needs disruption and potentially solvable through allocating subscription fees directly to rights holders based on user engagement metrics rather than solely the number of streams, and the platform finding having alternative revenue streams rather than a split % from user sub fees. The opportunity for multi rev streams for the platform increases as user base grows. Internally within the music business another problem that needs to be addressed is the % of revenue cut to publishers. The % was recently increased from 12 to 15.8% … but is this really fair for the songwriters behind our favorite hits? Some argue that this % should be 50/50, my thought is 30/70 seems most appropriate. This issue however has little to do with streaming platforms and is determined by major labels. There’s a lot of room for everyone to win in the music industry. It’s about coming together and determining what is fair rather than what is greed. All in all the industry is ripe for disruption and there’s a number of problems to solve for from payment models, to artist/fan engagement tools, and social engagement around music which by nature is inherently social. #music #musicindustry #tech #musictechnology
