We’ve reached the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! 🌈 Thank you for helping us turn a symbol of pride into a symbol of action by spotting, snapping, and depositing rainbows at BMORainbowDeposits.com all summer long. With over 50,000 rainbow photos deposited, we’re donating $50,000 CAD to Rainbow Railroad in support of at-risk LGBTQ+ people around the world – totaling $150,000 in BMO donations to Rainbow Railroad over the past 3 years of our Rainbow Deposits campaign. #BMOPride

"Foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to U.S. trans communities and issues." -- 2021 Tracking Report: LGBTQ Grantmaking by U.S. Foundations It's been 3 years. What do you think has changed since then? The truth is, I don't know for sure, but I highly speculate that these 4 cents have not increased significantly, if at all. Point of Pride is unique in that our largest fundraiser each year comes directly from the community we serve. In just 2 years, we've seen over 70,000 individuals from the trans, nonbinary, gender-diverse communities, and our allies make donations, averaging $44 each. This community-driven funding constitutes a significant portion of our annual budget, supporting our 5 direct-service programs. I'm grateful for any person, company, or foundation that recognizes life-saving gender-affirming care as a fundamental right for all trans and nonbinary people. As we move into the second half of 2024, I hope to see this support grow rather than shrink, despite the challenging political climate surrounding transgender healthcare and access rights.

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

LGBTQI+ History is Happening Now. As queer and trans rights face alarming rollbacks and crackdowns around the world, our community is being targeted. This is not just a moment in time, it's a call to action. We must come together, stand in solidarity, and fight for our community. The future of our rights depends on what we do today, in response to threats that the LGBTQI+ community is facing worldwide. October is LGBTQI+ History Month. Although progress is being made every day, there has been a recent, disturbing trend of regression on LGBTQI+ rights. We are experiencing a high volume of requests for help from queer and trans people at risk around the world, and we need your help to respond. Be a part of LGBTQI+ history by supporting our vital work today. Donate by visiting https://lnkd.in/g3fEPD5H

Ohio, do better. Read below for some of my thoughts on the HB 68 decision.
A statement from NEOCH's Director of LGBTQ+ Navigation Services about HB 68: I am profoundly outraged by the court's ruling on House Bill 68. With over a decade of experience working with youth, I am acutely aware of the severe harm and fear this decision will inflict. Access to gender-affirming care is a critical aspect of well-being and stability for many folks, and legal restrictions on this essential care will only intensify the already overwhelming challenges faced by marginalized communities. Trans and non-binary youth already face significant obstacles, including disproportionately high rates of housing instability and homelessness. Limiting their access to gender-affirming care exacerbates these difficulties and jeopardizes their mental and emotional health. Ensuring that all individuals have access to supportive and affirming care is crucial for their well-being and autonomy. If you are determined to make a difference, consider donating to The Future is Queer Fund. https://lnkd.in/gpUU4uph

Pride remains essential as it serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for LGBTQIA+ equality. If someone in your life asks why is #Pride still necessary: ➡ In 2023, the ACLU tracked 510 proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bills in the U.S, with 80+ passing into law ➡ On a national level, LGBTQIA+ youth are 13x more likely to experience homelessness than their straight peers due to community and family rejection, discrimination, and violence ➡ Since 2013, Human Rights Campaign has recorded the deaths of 335 transgender and gender non-conforming victims of fatal violence. In the last 12 months, 90% of victims identified as BIPOC. 🏳️🌈 Help Us Empower LGBTQIA+ Youth This Pride Month by donating in support of LGBTQIA+ youth because WE NEED PRIDE! 🏳️🌈 Donate: https://shorturl.at/WB22T
