At today's DLD Conference Nature event in Munich, our board member Dr. Heba Aguib, represented the BMW Foundation on the panel 'Business Case for Biodiversity'. 🌿 In her discussion with David Diallo (goodcarbon), Korbinian K. (Nature Wealth Foundation), and Dr. Tobias Raffel (Biodiversity Bridge e.V.), Dr. Aguib emphasized the complex interdependencies between climate protection, energy transition, and biodiversity. One only has to look at water, food, and energy to understand the strong dependencies on the natural ecosystem. The agriculture and energy sectors are prime examples of industries directly affected by and influencing the decline in biodiversity. Dr. Aguib therefore stressed the importance of cross-sector exchange to share best practices and innovate together, so that efforts to protect biodiversity have a lasting, positive impact on society. Solutions must benefit nature, the economy, and society in equal measure. 🌱 As a global network foundation, the BMW Foundation believes in the power of collaboration and the importance of building bridges between leaders and experts across industries. By integrating biodiversity considerations into supply chains, operating models, and leveraging existing technologies, we can create solutions that not only protect nature but also benefit society as a whole. #DLDNature #Biodiversity #Sustainability #Collaboration #BusinessForGood #Innovation #SocialImpact #ThePowerOfCollaboration

🌿 "Shades of Green – On a Train Ride to Nature" at DLD Nature 🌿 Christoph Heinrich, Director of Ecologic Institute, had the chance to join Katrin Habenschaden (Deutsche Bahn) at the DLD Conference to discuss the essential links between business, nature, and our collective future. As the world faces the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate risks, the pressure on companies is growing. Biodiversity has become a critical factor for corporate resilience and success. Christoph highlighted the importance of holistic strategies that not only focus on reducing carbon footprints, but also fully integrate biodiversity into business practices. 🔍 The takeaway? Business decisions affect biodiversity not just through direct operations, but also across supply chains and investments. Companies like Deutsche Bahn are demonstrating how sustainability can protect both biodiversity and climate resilience. 🎥 Watch the full discussion here: https://lnkd.in/dAxsv9CW At Ecologic Institute, we strive to develop practical solutions to meet these challenges—working closely with policymakers, businesses, and civil society. #biodiversity #climateresilience #sustainability #EcologicInstitute #businessfornature #naturepositive #corporateresponsibility Photo: Dominik Gigler for DLD / Hubert Burda Media

My second time hearing Sandrine Dixson-Declève speak and I am becoming a bit of a fan! Last week was the #oecd ‘s Science, Technology Policy Ministerial meeting. I attended a session on Partnerships for #ClimateAction and #Biodiversity. Key takeaways: 1- We can tackle some of our biggest global challenges through cooperation and partnerships, as long as we set goals together and then deliver … “honestly”! 2- The goals we set must be based on evidence. 3- TRUST is key in partnerships and worth spending time to create trust, possibly why it seems to work better locally. 4- Costing out partnership proposals and funding them appropriately is essential. This may require bringing the investment community to the table from the start. 5- Do not treat citizen assembly or citizen engagement as an afterthought, it should always be a key part of partnerships. Most of this is not new, but good principles to take into partnerships. And then Alberto Di Minin, beautifully Chaired a second panel discussion with a focus on biodiversity. The key takeaways for me: 1- we need to bring together and create a global view on biodiversity that is multidisciplinary. 2- integrate biodiversity considerations into the mainstream (eg: if you are buying a house, know the impact on biodiversity).

We've been hearing a lot about Nature-based Solutions (NBS), but what are they? Nature-based Solutions involve working with #nature to tackle societal challenges, enhancing human well-being and biodiversity at local levels. They encompass, for instance, the protection, restoration, or management of natural and semi-natural ecosystems, as well as the sustainable management of aquatic systems and working lands. NBS are underpinned in biodiversity and are designed and implemented in a manner that honors the rights, values, and knowledge of local communities and #indigenouspeoples. To gain a deeper understanding, I recently completed the foundation course "Nature-based Solutions to Global Challenges" by University of Oxford. This course was of great help to better understand the science, policy, practice, resourcing, and governance of nature-based solutions. #NatureBasedSolutions #Sustainability #ProfessionalDevelopment Nature-Based Solutions Initiative

It's International Forest Day today! 💚🌳 The theme for International Day of Forests 2024 is Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World. To tackle these challenges, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have launched AIM4Forests, a five-year program. AIM4Forests aims to support forest monitoring through modern technologies and innovation, including the use of space data and remote sensing. Given that Bio-LUSH not only promotes sustainable practices but also frees up land space for crucial forest plantations, we believe it's imperative to highlight programs like AIM4Forests.🌲🌳 #internationalforestday #AIM4Forests #BioLUSH

The Global Nature Positive Summit 2024 is off to a strong start, with today's announcement of a new global body of 'State of Nature Metrics'. Like the name suggests, these are the first effort at a global metrics that measure the state of nature, in one science-based, practical and standardised way. 'Progress towards trusted, consistent, and transparent standards for the collection and analysis of nature data' is one of the five key outcomes BWD Strategic is looking for from the Summit. Today's announcement is a welcome step in the right direction. Consultation on these Metrics begins now - so, get involved and help shape the future of how we measure nature-positivity. And congratulations (and thanks!) Nature Positive Initiative on this important work. #nature #metrics #biodiversity #sustainability #strategy
Today, the Nature Positive Initiative launched a global consultation on the newly aligned 'State of Nature Metrics,' which aims to provide a measurement framework on the state of biodiversity. As a founding member of the initiative, we are delighted to welcome today's announcement and the start of the consultation period. The metrics, unveiled at the Nature Positive Summit in Sydney, represent the first universal approach to measuring the state of nature, potentially transforming how businesses, financial institutions and other key stakeholders embrace action and report on nature-positive outcomes. The final version of the ‘State of Nature Metrics' is planned for release in January 2025. Tony Goldner, Executive Director, Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), said: “In today’s world, where businesses are increasingly held accountable for their actions on climate and nature, understanding their impact on biodiversity—whether positive or negative—is critical. Companies need a single set of science-based and practical metrics to help them assess and report on their impact on nature. We invite all businesses to join us in the development of the ‘State of Nature’ metrics, by taking part in the consultation and helping to ensure the metrics are practical for real-world applications.” Organisations can join the consultation and have their say on how the initiative measures nature’s recovery and drives action at scale 👉 https://lnkd.in/eycKGxAw #NaturePositive #TNFD #NatureMetrics
