In 2Q 2024, the UAE maintained its position as the second-largest projects market in the GCC, accounting for 31.6% of total contracts awarded in the region, with a total value of $16.34 billion, a 23.6% year-on-year decline, according to Kamco Invest’s GCC projects market update. The construction sector saw a significant drop, with project awards decreasing by 62.9% year-on-year to $4.4 billion, representing 26.6% of total contracts, down from 47.1% in 2Q 2023. Also, six out of eight sectors experienced declines in contract awards, with the chemical sector logging no new project awards compared to $3.6 billion last year. In contrast, the oil and gas sectors experienced substantial increases, with project awards in the gas sector rising over 6.5 times to $5.6 billion and in the oil sector increasing 5 times to $4.3 billion. Notably, Adnoc awarded a $5.5 billion contract for its Ruwais LNG project to a joint venture between Technip Energies, JGC Corporation, and National Marine Dredging Company in June, following the final investment decision for the project.

Top global utility developers are vying for the development of Bahrain's Sitra Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP), with prequalification bids submitted by leading companies including Korea Electric Power Corp (Kepco), Japan's Sumitomo, Saudi-based Acwa Power, and China Machinery Engineering Corp. 🌍💡 Other interested parties include Saudi's Al Jomaih Energy and Water, Kuwait's Gulf Investment Corporation, Jera Middle East and Africa, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, and AlGhanim International General Trading and Contracting.
