Malaysia emerging as data centre powerhouse in Asia

The Data Center business in ASEAN is experiencing significant growth, with Thailand poised to become a regional hub, thanks to local business demand and government investment incentives. However, Thailand currently trails behind Malaysia and Singapore, with Malaysia benefiting from lower electricity costs and a more robust digital infrastructure. This competitive landscape presents both challenges and opportunities for growth and innovation in Thailand’s data center market.

Good to see some of our Malaysian corporates getting some of the DC action, including some contracts awarded to local construction companies such as Sunway and Gamuda. And property developers (and maybe soon some plantation companies too....) are reaping the profits from land sales. More importantly after all these buzz on DC construction, what value are these DCs contributing to Malaysia. We need more progress and development in the tech and AI ecosystem. Today I came across some exciting news in W.Media - Global about #Malaysia stepping up its digital infrastructure game with the new Data Centre Planning Guidelines (#GPP) introduced by the government.  These guidelines are designed to streamline the development process as well as attract more foreign investment by ensuring #datacentres align with designated land use zones, focusing on commercial and industrial areas.
