Should I include a cover letter when I submit my resume to apply for a job? A lot of job seekers ask themselves that question. The easy answer is, NO. Just going with the resume means less work, but it also eliminates the chance to make a lasting impression. The cover letter is designed to complement the resume. It can allow you to tell your story more conversationally, and focus on why you would be a good choice for the position. In addition, you can include a persuasive closing message that can set you apart from other applicants.

While the debate over whether to include a cover letter in your job application rages on, here’s where I stand: ➡️ 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡: A well-crafted cover letter allows you to inject personality into your communication, giving hiring managers a glimpse into who you are beyond your resume. ➡️ 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐭: Even with a fully branded resume, a cover letter gives you the opportunity to further explain how your skills and experiences precisely align with the specific needs of the role and the company, making a compelling case for why you’re the best candidate. ➡️ 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: An aligned cover letter can help you stand out from other candidates and leave a lasting impression on employers. While a cover letter may not always be required, unless specifically instructed otherwise, I encourage you to craft a compelling letter that connects the dots between your experience and the employer’s needs, challenges, or pain points. Remember, cover letters do not have to be lengthy to be effective. Prioritize quality over quantity, and make every word count. Your goal is to leave the reader wanting to learn more about you and why you're the perfect candidate for the role. Doing so can significantly enhance your application and set you apart from the competition. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚'𝒔 𝒋𝒐𝒃 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒕? #CoverLetterDebate #CareerAdvice

Great article regarding cover letters! I had a client who told me the hiring manager brought him in because of the story and strength found in her cover letter. A compelling cover letter can indeed make a significant impact. It's not just about listing skills and experiences; it's also about telling a story that resonates with the hiring manager. A well-crafted cover letter can showcase your personality, passion, and why you're uniquely qualified for the position. To create a standout cover letter, thoroughly researching the company, and the role is essential. Tailor your letter to the specific job and company culture. Use specific examples to demonstrate your skills and accomplishments, and show how they align with the company's goals. Additionally, focus on the value you can bring to the company. Highlight your strengths and how they make you an asset to the team. Avoid clichés and generic statements; be authentic and let your personality shine through. A strong cover letter can set you apart from other candidates and increase your chances of landing an interview. It's a great opportunity to make a memorable impression and showcase your passion and qualifications for the job.

Your cover letter should highlight your unique personality and achievements, but it should also be concise and easy to read. The hiring manager won’t take more than several seconds to skim through each candidate’s cover letter, so brevity is key. #HiringManager #CoverLetter #Achievements

7moWhen I see a cover letter, even if it is not a great one, it tells me that the applicant put a little time and thought into applying, maybe a drop of research, maybe an attempt to determine if they were a really good fit. Without a cover letter I feel like the applicant is just sending to everything and anything. Just my two cents!
