💡𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 "𝐀𝐳𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐎𝐩𝐬" 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞. 🚀 Back in the days 𝐀𝐳𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐎𝐩𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 was still called as 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬. ( On-prem version is called "Team Foundation Server" ) Around 2010 to 2015 the Term 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐎𝐩𝐬 started getting lot of popularity. While 𝐓𝐅𝐒 was widely used, the name reflected its roots in on-premises server technology, which didn't fully reach the audience who were looking for DevOps tools. In 2018, Microsoft rebranded 𝐓𝐅𝐒 to 𝐀𝐳𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐎𝐩𝐬. This move was not just a name change but a strategic redefinition of the product's identity: By incorporating "𝐀𝐳𝐮𝐫𝐞" into the name, the rebranding directly tied the platform to Microsoft's powerful cloud ecosystem. This instantly conveyed the message that Azure DevOps was a cloud-first, integrated solution. The term "𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐎𝐩𝐬" reflects the core philosophy of the platform—integrating development and operations to streamline the software delivery process. Whoever thought this Rename is a genius. Azure DevOps gained a lot of momentum and became easily understood. 🚀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟰𝟮 𝗼𝗳 #𝟭𝟬𝟬𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗢𝗳𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 🚀 🌟 Today's Focus: 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 If your organization has many Azure subscriptions, you might need a way to efficiently manage access, policies, and compliance for those subscriptions. Management groups provide a governance scope above subscriptions. When you organize subscriptions into management groups, the governance conditions that you apply cascade by inheritance to all associated subscriptions. Management groups give you 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲-𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 at scale, no matter what type of subscriptions you might have. However, all subscriptions within a single management group must trust the same Microsoft Entra tenant. For example, you can apply a policy to a management group that limits the regions available for virtual machine (VM) creation. This policy would be applied to all nested management groups, subscriptions, and resources to allow VM creation only in authorized regions. 🔻𝗛𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 You can build a flexible structure of management groups and subscriptions to organize your resources into a hierarchy for unified policy and access management. Another scenario where you would use management groups is to provide user access to multiple subscriptions. By moving multiple subscriptions under a management group, you can create one Azure role assignment on the management group. The role will inherit that access to all the subscriptions. One assignment on the management group can enable users to have access to everything they need, instead of scripting Azure role-based access control (RBAC) over different subscriptions.
