Why exactly do we have to stop innovation to fix the world, when it has given us… Polybenzimidazole (PBI): While the name may be difficult to pronounce, it is a critical material in safety and protection. Polybenzimidazole (PBI) may not be widely recognized, but its contribution to safety and performance in critical environments is invaluable. Known for its exceptional heat resistance and mechanical strength, PBI is used in high-risk industries such as aerospace and in protective clothing for firefighters and industrial workers. Before PBI, alternatives like asbestos and flame-retardant-treated cotton were widely used. While asbestos offered high heat resistance, its severe health risks led to a global ban. Treated cotton (and you don't want to know with what) was initially effective but degraded over time, losing its protective qualities after repeated exposure to heat or washing. PBI’s ability to withstand extreme conditions while maintaining performance makes it indispensable, ensuring safety where older materials fall short. This underscores the importance of continuous innovation in material science to protect lives and equipment in the most demanding applications.

In our latest #PFAS research highlight, featured in the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association, we explore real-time #Vocus monitoring of PFAS emissions. The study, "Characterization of PFAS Air Emissions from Thermal Application of Fluoropolymer Dispersions on Fabrics," examines how high temperatures during industrial coating processes transform fluoropolymer dispersions into various PFAS. Using our Vocus technology, researchers detected these emissions with exceptional precision, revealing peak emissions at higher temperatures and significant degradation of components like GenX. #RealTimeDetection #EnvironmentalMonitoring #EnvironmentalResearch #AirQuality #CIMS

We like to follow the progress being made in eliminating 'forever chemicals' from our environment and, more specifically, from the raw materials we use to create tapes, labels and packaging for our clients. Here's a great article by MIT Technology Review that helps explain PFAS chemicals, what they are, how they get into our bloodstream and what is being done to fix the problem. Between manufacturing giant 3M's commitment to completely stop making these 'Forever Chemicals' in 2025 to the progress being made by Revive and their 'Annihilator' (a machine that destroys existing PFAS particles) we are making great strides toward a greener world for future generations. https://lnkd.in/eiMFy9y5.

Imagine a world where your hydraulic fracturing operations are not only efficient but also environmentally conscious. That's the world Parker's ZP203 and ZP204 degradable elastomer compounds can help create. These compounds are tough enough to seal pressures up to 10,000 psi, and once the frac is complete, they degrade into flowable, non-clogging particulates. This degradation process can take days to weeks, depending on temperature, but isn't greatly affected by a wide range of salinities. 🌡️🧂 Want to learn more about this game-changing technology? Business Development Manager at Terrafend | Reinventing industrial cleaning processes to reduce risk and transform the carbon footprint by removing solvents
The reliance on solvents and our health If you work for a coatings manufacturer, it’s likely that you are using harmful solvents for cleaning. Whether it's because they release toxic VOCs, can cause skin burns or are just very flammable, we should avoid using these chemicals as much a possible. But there isn't an alternative solution? We don’t need these dangerous chemicals and toxic solvents to properly clean manufacturing equipment. What we need is to reconsider the process. That’s what Ambimization® does. We use a combination of chemistry and engineering to reinvent the cleaning process without the need for harsh chemicals that endanger people and pollute the environment. We’re here to help companies choose a more efficient and sustainable solution.
