Greetings, we are delighted to share that Ms. Ruchita Singh, Joint Director & Head, IPR Division, FICCI, delivered the welcome address at the 7th IPTSE - IP Awards & Conclave, underscoring the critical role of IP in India's economic growth. She emphasized the government of India's initiatives to promote innovation, citing the nation's impressive advancement in the global intellectual property rankings. Ms. Singh referenced the recent WIPO report, highlighting that India has secured a position among the top 10 countries globally in patents, trademarks, and designs. She also noted the allocations of ₹1 trillion in the 2024 union budget for R&D to further bolster innovation. The 7th IPTSE IP Conclave on November 19, 2024, in New Delhi, focused on "Driving Economic Empowerment with IP in Global Trade." The article delves into the principle of natural justice as applied to arbitration, particularly focusing on the rule against bias and its implications under Section 12 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. It critically examines the existing challenge regime, highlighting its deficiencies, and evaluates the recommendations of the Expert Committee to introduce immediate appeal mechanisms, aligning the Indian framework with international standards. PRESS RELEASE: PCC confers with Quezon City LGU on competition, local governance On December 3, the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the Quezon City Government (QC LGU) held a competition dialogue at the Quezon City Hall. PCC Chairperson Michael G. Aguinaldo underscored the critical role of LGUs in fostering fair competition to benefit consumers and businesses alike. “By ensuring fair competition, we can achieve better quality products, more reasonable prices, and increased innovation,” Aguinaldo said. He also highlighted the significance of Administrative Order No. 44, which mandates all government agencies to adopt pro-competitive policies. Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina G. Belmonte recognized the importance of collaboration in addressing competition issues and welcomed further dialogue. Belmonte and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committed to exploring opportunities for cooperation with the PCC. Both PCC and the QC LGU recognize the importance and benefits of promoting free and fair market competition. Representatives from the Competition Enforcement Office, Mergers and Acquisitions Office, and Economics Office provided a brief overview of the Philippine Competition Act and the National Competition Policy for city councilors and top leadership in various offices in the QC LGU. By continuously engaging LGUs, the PCC hopes to strengthen the promotion and enforcement of fair competition in the markets for a more inclusive economic growth.
