This should be your strategy in 2024 to switch to FP&A domain :- 1) Develop an understanding FP&A profile -learn about concepts like Budgeting,Forecasting, Flash Reporting, Variance Analysis etc. 2) Develop connect with FP&A team in your office via coffee meet, lunch etc and try to understand what their normal working day look like. 3) Find activities in your current profile which are closer to the FP&A profile and develop a deeper understanding of these.For example, an AP guy may be doing the 'Vendor Spend Forecasting' or an R2R person may be preparing the 'Current vs Previous Month Expense Variance Reporting". 4) Take up adhoc projects and assignments that involve meaningful learnings. 5) Understand business model, revenue recognition policies, etc. of your current company. 6) Apart from external FP&A vacancies, look for Internal Job Postings in FP&A team and apply as soon as you see one. 7) Prepare an impressive CV substantiating your achievements and including relevant keywords. Seek expert's help if necessary. 8) Build an exhaustive LinkedIn profile highlighting your achievements and interests. Engage with relevant posts, develop connect with worthy FP&A individuals and future leaders. Follow recruiters and hiring managers of target companies. 9) Work on your professional communication, presentation skills and stakeholder management. 10) Identify FP&A experts and mentors and follow their content. 11) Target the companies which hire frequently for FP&A roles. Thinking of a new FP&A role in 2024? Most candidates won't do this... 👀 ...think about the hiring process from the side of the recruiter From the moment I started to be a hiring manager, my knowledge of the recruitment process improved 10x You can get the same benefit from understanding how recruiters will match you with job openings 🏃 In finance roles the first couple of hurdles are usually your University education and finance qualification. This stage is possible for a hiring manager to do from just your CV, so make sure yours clearly shows your education and qualifications 🔍 Next they will focus on the job description. Does the client require 3 years of experience? Do they need you to have worked in a similar sector before? Do you need people management experience? Again, all these questions are answerable from your CV, so you can see what an important document it is for you 😄 The next step will be based more on interpersonal skills. When you meet with the recruiter, are you professional? Are you likeable? Can you work in a team? Are you a good rapport builder? All of these in-person questions add up to answer the questions “Would the candidate fit in well at the hiring company”. This is also known as team or cultural fit 📝 If you made it this far - congratulations!
