💡 Aviation Word of The Day - TILTROTOR: 🔹A type of aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities of a helicopter + the high-speed, long-range flight capabilities of a fixed-wing airplane 🔹Think of a tiltrotor aircraft as a mix between a helicopter and an airplane 🔹Like a helicopter, it can take off and land vertically. Boeing, the American defence and aerospace company, has announced its 2023 aircraft delivery results to customers worldwide. In total, the company delivered 77 AH-64E Apache combat helicopters this year, including 20 brand new units and 57 upgraded from earlier variants. Additionally, Boeing handed over 20 heavy CH-47F Chinook transport helicopters, of which 9 were upgraded models, and 2 multi-mission MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters. The company’s delivery portfolio for 2023 also included 22 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet multi-role combat aircraft, 13 KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling and transport planes, 11 P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, and three T-7A Red Hawk advanced training jets. The helicopter market is a lucrative industry that has seen significant growth in recent years. With a wide range of applications, from military operations to search and rescue missions, helicopters have become an essential tool for many organizations around the world. Two major players in this market, Airbus and Boeing, have taken different approaches to expanding their share of the market.

The Ministry of Defence of North Macedonia has announced its decision to acquire helicopters from the Italian company Leonardo. This decision is part of the country's broader program to upgrade its armed forces. The deal reportedly includes four AW169 and four AW149 helicopters. Currently, the project has moved to the stage of forming a team responsible for conducting the necessary technical negotiations and finalizing the contract. Leonardo’s bid was chosen over three other European and American contenders, including the H145M and H222M offered by Airbus and the Bell 412M and Lockheed Martin S-70 Black Hawk. The selection was based on various factors, including the helicopters’ overall capabilities, pricing, and their logistics and maintenance systems.
