Yesterday was all about housekeeping. And by housekeeping, I mean... garage-keeping. I Ended up hauling 1800 pounds of stuff out of my garage—everything from old cribs to burnt light bulbs. It was a ridiculous mountain of clutter, not to mention blocking my lawnmower and becoming the bane of my neighbor's existence! But as I was clearing out all that junk, it hit me: isn’t this just like our work lives or businesses? Stuff just stacks up, and creates an environment that isn't conducive for growth. It gets in the way, robs momentum, and sucks up your mental bandwidth. So with my buddy Chris and my boy Judah.. we tackled that mess. Suddenly, there’s room for shelves, a new parking spot for Ashley’s van, and hey—I even found some tools I didn’t know I had! It cost me a truck rental, a trip to the dump, and yes, my back’s telling me all about it today. But clearing that physical and mental clutter? Priceless. It freed up more than just space—it’s opened up the potential for efficiency and new ways to use what's been there the whole time. So here’s a thought: maybe it’s time for some metaphorical housekeeping in your work life too. What clutter could you clear to make space for growth and efficiency? I have spent the last 3 days training this house help who met my expectations.. This lady isn't so green. The ability to listen and follow instructions and enquire.. She doesn't wait for me to arrive, she starts working from where we left.. She is also skilled and gifted. She is great in communication. I have trained others who don't know anything, others look at you wondering what you are saying, some you literally have to push. Where we are reclaiming our spaces, one way we are doing it is equipping your house manager on cleaning and Housekeeping skills. Add value to your house managers. It's DEEP CLEAN time in Housekeeping! 🧹✨ Your rooms and teams have been working flat out for months. Rolling rota jobs go out the window when you are short four team members on a full turn! Supervisors don't check rooms properly when they have 50+ rooms to inspect. #HousekeepingStruggles Families tend to create more mess than corporate (mostly). Small children get sticky hands everywhere! 🙈 All the doors, windows, chairs, tables... everything in rooms, corridors, lifts, and public areas needs to be moved, cleaned under, and washed down. #DeepCleaningEssentials A room audit needs to be completed, and maintenance snag lists should be checked off. Beds need to be pulled out and cleaned under. Skirting needs to be wiped, mattresses turned, and throws/cushions changed (even if they look clean!). Case goods should be wiped inside and out, including chair legs, bedside tables, and wardrobes. #AttentionToDetail Wet dusting... picture frames, high places! 🖼️ Descale showers, clean under sinks, and behind toilets. Change shower curtains and clean and check vents. #CleanlinessIsKey A carpet cleaning plan is necessary for stains and maintenance cleans. #CarpetCare A stock check is essential. Vacuums and floor machines need to be serviced. Trolleys must be stripped, cleaned, and repaired. Linen needs to be counted, and mattress stocks checked (kids wet the bed! Often). #InventoryCheck This year's budgets need to be reviewed, and next year's budgets and capex need to be planned. Team holidays must be scheduled. #BudgetPlanning If all these things don't happen, dirt and grime build up, rooms start to smell,feel dirty, and they become harder to clean on a daily basis.
