The perception of certain jobs can be misleading. As a support worker or personal carer, the assumption that it's a 'dirty job' is far from the truth. In Canada, roles like these are classified as non-regulated jobs, recognized with specialized training in Colleges. Organizations often require certification for roles like Health Care Aide or Support Worker, emphasizing the importance of skill and expertise. Proudly embracing my role as a support worker, I find fulfillment in providing care and support. Are you an Executive Assistant relocating from a state outside of Massachusetts and not having much luck? If so, I have some inside scoop to share and an idea to help you get here with a job in hand! Several months ago, companies started asking if the individuals we presented to them currently live in Massachusetts. Regardless of whether the job seeker has intentions to move and could find a place to live, the company has been passing on them and interviewing other people who already live in the area. Why? It's easier for the company to avoid dealing with all the trials and tribulations of a person finding a place to live and then dealing with all the potential moving issues that may come up. It's hard to blame them when they have two fairly equal candidates to choose from, and one already lives here. As a high-performing Executive Assistant, you encounter problems and roadblocks throughout the day. Your role involves effectively addressing and resolving these challenges. To showcase your ability to provide solutions to potential employers, consider the following suggestions: In your cover letter or email introduction, acknowledge that you're moving here and provide a concrete reason. ◾️ I went to school in Boston, and now that I've lived away from Massachusetts, I've realized how much I love it and want to settle and make a life here. ◾️ I have family that lives in Framingham, and I want to be close to them. ◾️ I'm a huge Red Sox and Celtics fan and have visited Boston 10-times. Consider adding something to the cl/intro like this: "It's challenging to find an apartment to lease while I'm currently living in Minnesota; however, I've researched Airbnb apartments in Cambridge, and there are 25 that are available and priced well within my acceptable range. Renting through Airbnb will give me time to get settled and find a long-term place to live within a short commute to your office. Additionally, if I were to be offered a job, the boxes are packed, and all of the moving pieces are in place, allowing me to start with your company no more than 3 weeks later."
