A recent CrowdStrike (CRWD) update glitch caused a global IT outage via Microsoft (MSFT) cloud servers, sparking debates in our company about the causes and consequences since our developments directly intersect with similar services. It is evident that each application area requires its own specific conditions for development and product configuration, which is often impossible to achieve or monitor in large, universal products. For these reasons, we began developing our own products several years ago, making them as flexible and customizable as possible.

maybe it's just me but I only recently found out about this but this is pretty scary since about a million plus people use VMware everyday. Here's what my agents came up with. The recent issues with VMware primarily involve a maintenance activity and a security vulnerability. Maintenance Updates: VMware conducted maintenance on the Hybrid Cloud Extension (HCX) service on July 21, 2024, which is now complete. This maintenance affected the ability to activate HCX and deploy HCX in VMware Cloud on AWS during the maintenance window, but existing installations were not impacted https://lnkd.in/gYnMDGuG https://lnkd.in/ggRugQPU. Security Vulnerability: A significant issue involves a vulnerability (CVE-2024-6387) in OpenSSH, which affects some VMware Cloud Foundation products. This vulnerability is considered high severity with a CVSS score of 8.1. However, it has only been demonstrated to be exploitable on 32-bit Linux operating systems in controlled environments, and most VMware products use 64-bit systems. VMware has provided guidance and is working on integrating non-vulnerable versions of OpenSSH in future releases https://lnkd.in/gBRcWt64 For ongoing updates, you can check the [Broadcom Service Status page for VMware https://lnkd.in/gmkc4MNG https://lnkd.in/gmkc4MNG

Recovery options for Azure Virtual Machines (VM) affected by CrowdStrike Falcon agent. We are aware of an issue that started on 19 July 2024 at 04:09UTC, which resulted in customers experiencing unresponsiveness and startup failures on Windows machines using the CrowdStrike Falcon agent, affecting both on-premises and various cloud platforms. CrowdStrike has released a public statement on Windows Sensor Update - crowdstrike.com addressing the matter, and it includes recommended steps for a workaround. For environments specific to Azure, further instructions are provided below: Recovery Option: We have noticed that some Azure... #techcommunity #azure #microsoft https://lnkd.in/gXPZ4v5B

Less than a week after the CrowdStrike bug that took out millions of Windows devices worldwide, Microsoft Azure is currently experiencing a partial outage that has taken portal.azure.com offline and taken down a number of products built in Azure. It will probably all be back online in a couple of hours, but not without significant disruption to business globally including several of our customers (thankfully the Ferrio platform is all clear). On the whole cloud uptime %s are better than on-prem and 100% uptime is simply unattainable, but it does highlight the risks of such globalised infrastructure. If Azure is down for 3 hours, half the world's IT is down for 3 hours. Gets me thinking about Ferrio building our own infrastructure when economies of scale permit it...

Is you on-premise #ActiveDirectory in the way of your "#Cloud First?" Is it time to assess AD #security and technical dependencies?

We certainly cannot ignore today's incident in which a CrowdStrike (CRWD) update glitch caused a global IT outage via Microsoft (MSFT) cloud servers. It's clear that we will witness similar large-scale disruptions as the digitalization of all areas of activity continues. This further proves that we need to approach IT solutions individually and not always choose the most accessible option.

Helping aerospace and satellite companies build innovative solutions on AWS for earth observation, space exploration, satellite communication, and geospatial intelligence.
Containers have become the dominant method for deploying and managing applications in recent years. Their widespread adoption is attributed to numerous advantages, such as isolation, efficient hardware use, scalability, and portability. In situations where resource isolation is critical for system security, many users are forced to rely on virtual machines (VMs) to mitigate the impact of a compromised container on the host or other containers sharing the host. #AWS #AmazonWebServices #Cloud #CloudComputing #EKS #K8S #Containers #Kubernetes
