Throwback to November, where we were in Cape Town for the Africa Tech Festival – a space where tech, creativity, and innovation collide 🇿🇦 One highlight was hearing Mariana Kühnel, Deputy Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, share insights on AI policy, governance, and women empowerment in Africa. We also hosted a gathering at the Zeitz MOCAA, bringing together 35 leaders from business, policy, and the creative industries. It was an evening of art, ideas, and conversations that left a mark. Africa’s tech scene is growing fast, with so much potential for partnerships and innovation. We’re excited to see where these connections will take us next 🌍 #BOLDMinds #AfricaTechFestival #innovationafrica #austrianbusiness #globalconnections

Africa Tech Festival 2024 reflections So last week I attended the 2024 Africa Tech festival event/showcase for the very first time at CTICC. Kudos to the events management team for a well run event (including the false evacuation alarm 😊) but I guess they were testing how responsive we will be in case of an emergency. From the sessions I attended, I was inspired by the various trailblazers both from the African continent and abroad who shared their insights on the various topics, unapologetically and with conviction. Even though I attended a few mixed gender panel sessions, I must admit my bias towards women oriented topics (EQL:Lounge was my targeted space). My key takeaways are: - AI is here to stay, we need to adapt so we are not left behind - Digital inclusion, meaningful access/connectivity for all is needed as we have a large unconnected and underserved population in Africa - When considering starting new ventures, the best lessons are those found outside your comfort zone - A lot more work needs to be sone to champion female economic empowerment and there are a lot of people doing amazing work in this space - It is important to have diverse networks - Women need to take up their space in areas that affect them including policy development and decision making Definitely looking forward to 2025 event ( 🤞 )
