Great opportunity to see the different aspects of Civil Engineering in the Heavy Highway Construction Industry

How I started working with minimal or no supervision as an intern…👨🔧👨🔧 After the commencement of my internship in April, it wasn’t long until I was not only assigned minor duties, but also major tasks with little or no supervision except when I called for attention. My Supervisor and the technicians were quick to notice my strong theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repairs. 🛠️🔧 Credits to my academic exposure at Elizade University and my previous internship trainings at Fix it Automobile Works, Jos. But also, this level of independence and trust was propelled by Aanuoluwapo O.’s 1% advice for interns, which I came across in the early days of my internship. Her 1% advice: 💡”Be Proactive and Take Initiative: Don't wait to be assigned tasks. Show your eagerness to learn and contribute meaningfully. 💡Ask Questions: Don't be afraid to ask questions! Your internship is a learning opportunity. Seek clarification and ask for challenging tasks to expand your knowledge base. 💡Build Relationships: Network with your colleagues, mentors, and supervisors. These connections can be invaluable resources throughout your career. 💡 Document Your Achievements: Keep track of the projects you work on, the skills you develop, and any accomplishments. 💡Express Gratitude: Always remember to thank your supervisors and colleagues for their guidance and support. Applying these tips have been really helpful over the last six months of interning at Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company. I am sharing them with the hopes that they help other interns too in the near future. My job for the day was to replace the injector nozzles of a Mercedes Benz Actros Truck. How did you find your internship here at Ruby-Collins? I found this internship through one of my friends who was an intern last year! Then I applied online and started the interview process. Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? I have a passion for working on real and practical projects. There is a deep sense of pride and satisfaction that comes with building structures from seeing a project through conception to completion. What do you do outside of school for fun? I love reading books, traveling to new places, learning how to invest, and watching lots of movies. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? My favorite part of this internship is working in the trenchless division. Being involved in a tunneling project has always been one of my dreams. What was your childhood dream job? 👋Meet Mamadu “Djulde” Dja! Every year, two high-preforming welding students are given the opportunity to complete an internship at the WAVS vocational school the following year. This year, Mamadu “Djulde” Dja was one of the former students selected for the internship. Interns support instructors in class by training students, and also help with producing welding products that are sold to the community to help support the school. After completing their internship, interns are awarded a starter kit with essential welding and metalwork tools to help them start their own business. Mamadu had this to say about the welding course: “At first, I saw it as a difficult course. This week, we started with a study visit from the Construction and Technical Schools Group students in Stargard. Engaging with the younger generation is a cornerstone of our approach, and here's why it's not just beneficial but crucial for our business: During their visit, the students examined the intricate process of prefabricated bathroom production from the ground up. This wasn't just a theoretical lesson; the students stepped into the shoes of quality control inspectors, comparing technical drawings directly with the actual bathroom modules. This hands-on experience is invaluable for the students, who gained practical insights and skills, and our company. Why is this engagement so critical? Firstly, it bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, preparing a skilled workforce ready to hit the ground running. Secondly, by opening our doors to these young minds, we're fostering a culture of innovation and fresh perspectives that can drive our company forward. Not doing my job has gotten me better jobs (don't show this to my boss 😉). I used to feel pressure to do really well. I also didn't want to dread my job, so I worried about picking the wrong one. When I took my first internship, I was studying Mechanical Engineering, and I got a great opportunity at Quartzdyne in Salt Lake City. It was a big learning curve, but I loved working with those people. I also loved fireworks. July 4th was coming up, and I wanted to play with fireworks at work. I presented the idea to HR of making Piccolo Pete Rocket Cars as a "team building exercise". They said YES! We split up into departments, gave everyone the same materials, and had a contest to see who could get their car to go the farthest (not to brag, engineering won). By the end of my internship they were offering me a full-time position, because they liked having ME around, because they knew ME, because I contributed ME to my colleagues. I have more stories like this, but I don't know how long LinkedIn posts should be, so please let me know if you want them! LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE! You and your company will be better off. Think outside of the job, and make the place you spend a 1/3 of your day a great place for everyone.

It is a valuable experience as it prepares me for my career and even gives me a head start on understanding some topics that I have not yet encountered in my major, like steel design. #Day_12 and #Day_13 During our winter internship at Indian railways in these two our schedule at the paint shop. Here we learn about paint's fluid properties. And different types of paint 1. primary paint 2. Secondary paint after we studied, the paint consists of five ingredients which are follows- 1. pigmemt 2. Binder 3. Solvent 4. Additives 5. Stabiliser lastly we studied the procedure of paint. And precautions during painting. With my teammates Dhirendra Berwal and Prateek Kumar.

CFL offers a very hands-on experience where not only do I get an in-person introduction to the #constructionfield, but I get to do so in our #nationalparks and other amazing areas! How Your Experience Has Been So Far: This #internship has gone beyond what I’ve expected I’ve had the #incredibleopportunity to be on the construction site almost daily shadowing the #siteinspectors and learning directly from our #projectengineer. What have you been working on? I’m mainly working on the scenic loop repair project in Theodore Roosevelt National Park south unit in #NorthDakota. A typical day on site I shadow the inspectors and get to learn about project operations, design implementations, and everything else there is to know about a construction site. At the end of the day, I write a daily report on what I’ve observed and learned throughout the day. What have you learned so far? I’ve learned much about #roadwaydesign, how they’re built, and the challenges associated with the process. By being included in project meetings I have gained a basic understanding of the administrative side of project operations as well.
