👋Meet Mamadu “Djulde” Dja! Every year, two high-preforming welding students are given the opportunity to complete an internship at the WAVS vocational school the following year. This year, Mamadu “Djulde” Dja was one of the former students selected for the internship. Interns support instructors in class by training students, and also help with producing welding products that are sold to the community to help support the school. After completing their internship, interns are awarded a starter kit with essential welding and metalwork tools to help them start their own business. Mamadu had this to say about the welding course: “At first, I saw it as a difficult course. Whenever I would see the things we would do, I would say, ‘Yeah, this is a difficult thing to do.’ But now that I’m doing it, I know that nothing is difficult if I really want to do it!” Learn more about sponsoring a student like Mamadu at wavschools.org/one-student. #tvet #jobskills #welding #welder #weldingstudent #weldingtraining #equip #educate #educateandempower

Alhamdulillah! This month, I completed my internship at Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) | Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) Factory. Thanks to Allah (SWT), I got the chance to meet many experts throughout my Internship in different Shops and learned a lot from them such as 1. What makes an Industry run COMPETITIVELY? 2. How to MANAGE resources efficiently? 3. How each TASK (as small as it may be) is handled? 4. What procedures to follow in times of EMERGENCIES? 5. Proper ways of resolving FAULTS in machines/Plants such as PERMIT TO WORK (PTW) and so much more... PTW is basically a paper containing 1. Description of the part needed to be repaired/replaced. 2. Safety description for example what type of fluids are flowing through pipes/tubes, if they are poisonous the maintenance engineers must wear Gas Masks, Safety Gloves, Safety Goggles etc. 3. Record of that specific part, for example if the part needs to be repaired/replaced before the expected date the engineers who worked on it will be called out for an inquiry. 4. When the problem is fixed by the Maintenance engineers, the Process Engineer will sign his requested permit if he is satisfied with the work. Because of PTW there is no Panic, unauthorized work and everything is documented and recorded. I would also like to share that during my visit at the POWER HOUSE, I faced a situation where the WATER LEVEL of the Boiler (type: watertube) kept going above and below the safe limit of the boiler. That's when I, along with my Instructor started to identify the root cause of the problem and found that the FEED CHECK VALVE (which controls the flow of water from feed pump to the boiler) was not functioning properly. Now to solve this issue as I mentioned before in Point-5 a permit to work (PTW) was requested and maintenance engineers were called. They arrived and when the boiler was turned off, I requested them to let me under your guidance install the new valve myself and they allowed me as it was not a dangerous work to do anymore. Finally, under their supervision and help I was able to successfully replace the feed check valve myself. #internship #job #mechanicalengineer #boiler #powerhouse #ptw #industry #pof #experience #internee #safety

She’s no stranger to the good ol high vis and steel caps 🫡🦺 Before I landed myself in Hunty HQ, I actually worked in the training industry for 2.5yrs. That time was split between two businesses, one specialising in short courses (Units of Competencies / Licences) in the Industrial Training space (Forklift, Work Safely at Heights, Confined Spaces, EWP, Excavator, Skid Steer, Telehandler, Front End Loader, Dogging, Rigging, Cranes… the list goes on) While the other focused on Full Qualifications (Think Cert II / III / IV & Traineeships / Apprenticeships) within multiple sectors (Local Government, Water Industry Ops, Construction/Civil Construction Land Management etc) My time was split between gallivanting around on site, GoPro in tow capturing all the fun that went on during the courses, preparing course documentation, brochures, social media posts, updating policies and doing the admin processing / paperwork in the background. What’s the relevance here you’re wondering? Between all that time there’s no surprise I picked up a wholeeee load of knowledge around those industries. I was constantly researching (working in marketing, I had to become an expert myself), I was surrounded by industry experts everyday and was constantly overhearing key aspects of that training and how it translated into real world scenarios. Safety, compliance, regulations, certificate requirements - I have experience working alongside the best of the best (maybe I’m bias because I loved our crew 😉) but I was consistently in the thick of it. Once again, relevance you’re wondering? Well if you’re looking for someone in the labour hire space, I’m not just a pretty face, I’m now working with the same demographic that I’ve spent the past 3yrs marketing to. I know how to attract the best candidates (after all I used to attract them as participants) and I come with the added bonus of industry experience - it’s a win win! And like I said, I’m not afraid to throw on the high vis and steel caps - I’ll see you onsite 👋🏼 (Video of the fun we used to get up to)
