Sitting on here thinking everyone else is smashing it and you're treading water? 🥲 If so, here's your gentle reminder that LinkedIn is designed for people to talk about the good stuff. Other people are probably looking at you thinking 🤩 while worrying about their own success / income / work life balance / stability / etc. If you're feeling a bit of comparisonitis, here are a few things that HAVEN'T gone well for me recently... ⛔ 30+ pitches declined in Jan and Feb 🔇 and 8+ didn't get a response at all 😬 A big, long-term retainer ended in December &, honestly, I was freaking out a bit about how to replace the income 👩🔬 Declined for two cool science comms fellowships (without even getting an interview) 👛 & I've already had my first late payer of the year (BOO!) This isn't a moan. I've had heaps of other cool things going on too (you've probably heard about those cause we're more likely to shout about the exciting stuff!) 🐈 Here's an example of why it's so important for social media managers to stay up to date on what's happening in the news: Aug. 8th is International Cat Day. And if you've been following political news in the U.S., you know that "childless cat ladies" is trending. So, even if you're planning the most innocent of cat posts on this day, it's still important to understand the conversation that's happening so you can be prepared, and potentially avoid getting caught up in any unwanted discussions. Or, alternatively, maybe this is a discussion you want to be part of, and perhaps you can take advantage of what's trending. BTW - International Dog Day is Aug. 26th. 🐶
