3moOur group of 27 volunteers collectively cleaned 30.91 lbs. of mono which is about 200 miles of line! The monofilament will be shipped to Pure Fishing for recycling. Tampa Bay Watch partners with the local fishing community by providing fishing line recycling tubes (or monotubes) for the proper disposal of fishing gear. This effort is part of Florida Fish and Wildlife's statewide Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program. Fishing line has excellent fishing utility, but it can remain in our environment for up to 600 years before it begins to break down. Improperly discarded fishing gear can lead to wildlife entanglement, and accidental hook or ingestion injuries. Please help us protect our environment by finding your nearest fishing line drop-off site.
