🌍 The Sahara Desert—one of the driest places on Earth—is experiencing an unexpected and green transformation. 🌱 Due to the extreme weather patterns brought on by climate change, unprecedented rainfall has led to patches of greenery sprouting across this barren landscape. While the sight may seem hopeful, it is a stark reminder of the shifting climate dynamics we face. This rare phenomenon, driven by global warming, is a warning of more unpredictable and severe environmental changes on the horizon. 🌧️ With the climate crisis affecting even the most extreme deserts, we must ask: How can we mitigate these changes and protect vulnerable ecosystems? 💡 What steps can we take now to prevent further environmental degradation and prepare for the inevitable shifts in our world? #ClimateChange #Sustainability #ESG #EnvironmentalCrisis #SaharaDesert #ClimateAction #NASA #GlobalWarming #ExtremeWeather #SustainabilitySolutions

When we speak about our Cities and Communities and Climate Change with its impact we also need to factor in the effects on our environment and its consequential circular impact back to our Cities and Communities. The attached article is enlightening. I would suggest a good read. Perhaps mass migration to Iceland !

⏳ [2023 retrospective] We invite you this month to go back to our milestones of the year with our success stories and reasons to celebrate before we enter the new year 2024. 🌎 In April, our international team managed to extract 3 ice cores on Holtedahlfonna, one of the largest glaciers in the #Svalbard Archipelago in #Norway, despite obstacles posed by unexpected high water content in the snow layers and extreme weather conditions. 🏔 The 3 collected ice cores represent an important scientific and cultural #heritage in the current context of strong #Arctic warming. Two of the samples will be crucial to better understand climate change in a region where impacts are going four times faster than the global average. Furthermore, the Ice Memory Foundation will preserve one of the ice cores for centuries to come at the dedicated #IceMemory sanctuary in #Antarctica. 🧒 Future generations of scientists will thereby have access to high-quality ice cores from the Alps to study new tracers related with the past environmental conditions of our planet and to anticipate future changes, long after the glacier will have disappeared due to global warming. 📹 Find Andrea Spolaor Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, the expedition leader testimonial in video: https://lnkd.in/dJgDdujc Read more about this international drilling mission: https://lnkd.in/djghne9b #drilling #glaciology #video #icecore #sanctuary #futuregenerations #conservation #teamwork

📢TUNE IN TONIGHT. The premiere of our film "Island Action, Global Goals: Can the #GlobalStocktake change the Caribbean's climate future" will be premiering tonight at 8PM (AST) on CNC3 ❗❗ 📍Here's a snippet of the #Kalinagos Community in #Dominica as they remain resilient in their traditions amidst the trials of climate change. 🌴In smaller islands, there are challenges to employing #adaptation strategies, but there are several pathways to build #resilience and improve adaptation outcomes including embedding #Indigenous knowledge and traditions in decision-making processes. 🌱Ferdison Valmond of the Kalinago community in Dominica sheds light on how the knowledge of the Indigenous can be used as a roadmap to navigate the challenges of climate change and natural disasters. #Kalinago #Indigineous #Sustainability #Sustainablepractices #ClimateChange #HurricaneMaria #dominica

Climate for Kids - sea level rise or SLR is a chronic stressor, i.e., it rises slowly. It is accelerating as a global mean which means it is accelerating in many places. Because of winds and circulation, SLR is not uniform but even where sea level maybe dipping, storms can cause inundation. 40% is from thermal expansion with some contribution from glacier melts. Just shows how much energy is getting stored in the oceans. Oceans take up more than 90% of the additional energy we are keeping in the system because of greenhouse gas emissions. Small Island States, many of which are still developing are terrified of SLR and they are the ones who want to keep global warming below 1.5C by 2100. Adaptation to SLR will depend on cost rather than accurate projection! #climate #children #education #sealevelrise #climatechange #glaciers #climateaction #climateimpacts #climatesolutions #climaterisks #netzero https://lnkd.in/d9SptiAt

🌍According to the World Meteorological Organization's 2023 report, global temperatures soared to record highs last year, with Asia experiencing accelerated warming. These alarming statistics emphasize the urgent need for action. Colin Moore, Regional Carbon Advisor at Wildlife Conservation Society Cambodia, recently joined MONEY FM 89.3 to discuss the pressing need to scale up nature-based solutions in Asia. In his insightful conversation, he highlighted the importance of initiatives like REDD+ in combating climate change and fostering sustainable regional development. Specifically, Colin highlighted the significance of adapting and expanding nature-based solutions like REDD+ to safeguard vital ecosystems such as the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary. 🎧Tune in to Colin's insightful discussion to delve deeper into this critical issue! #ClimateAction #Asia #Warming https://lnkd.in/eKfyJE7J

2wThis is due to a number of factors, including climate change, which is causing the region to receive more rainfall. The greening of the Sahara Desert is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it is a sign of life in a region that is typically very dry. On the other hand, it is also a sign of the devastating effects of climate change. The greening of the Sahara Desert is having a number of consequences. These consequences include flooding in some areas and drought in others. Climate change is also causing other changes in the Sahara Desert. These changes include the melting of glaciers and the rising of sea levels. It is important to be aware of the risks and benefits of the greening of the Sahara Desert. We need to be prepared for the challenges that it will bring, and we need to take steps to mitigate its negative effects.
