SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES: IT IS SHOW TIME! Taking advantage of the Olympic atmosphere, which excites me greatly, I bring you a film about the evolution of gold medals throughout the Modern Era. Even in Brazil, I'm living according to Paris time zone (waking up at 3:30 am and going to bed at 8:30 pm), to make the most of the emotions of live events. The evolution of the Soviet bloc countries (Eastern Europe) throughout the Cold War is clear, going from the 1948 Games (the first after the end of World War II) to the 1992 Games (whose medals were still counted for the Soviet Union). Instantly, China begins to stand out, being very close to reaching third place in the current games, surpassing Great Britain and Germany, and behind only the USA and the now extinct USSR. It's geopolitics in sport. Unfortunately, at the rate Brazil is going, it will take a long time for it to appear on this list. #olimpicgames #jogosolímpicos #olimpíadas #sport #esporte

1984 Olympic 2x Bronze medalist (200 & 4x100m) Thomas Jefferson and I had a friendly debate. Which US Olympic team had the most medals 1984 or 2016? This answer is a little complicated. We called our in-house track and field statition and historian Duffy Mahoney for this answer. He said 1984 won 40 medals but they put an astrik by it because Russia boycotted the 1984 Olympic Games. 2016 the U.S. competed against Russia and the rest of the world and we won 32 medals. Technically 1984 has the most but they didn’t compete against the whole world. This is the Gold Medal currently awarded at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games 2024 Some interesting trivia - 1.The first use of the modern-day medal system did not occur until the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, Missouri. These Games were the first to award the traditional gold, silver, and bronze medals to the top three finishers in each event. The gold medals presented at these Games consisted of solid gold, as the metal was cheaper to obtain prior to World War I. The 1908 London and 1912 Olympic Games also utilized solid gold medals, however, these were the last ones to do so. 2. The iron hexagon is made of a piece of Eiffel tower 3. Olympic gold medal is estimated at $1,027. And it's made of....1% Gold! But that makes sense, because if it was completely made of gold it would cost over $44k in raw materials. 4. On the backside that's the view from the Panathenaic stadium in Greece, the acropolis is in the right place but on the right the lykavitos hill has been replaced by the Eiffel Tower.
