The recent World Health Organization update on measles highlights both the achievements and ongoing challenges in combating this highly contagious disease. Despite the remarkable impact of vaccination programs, which averted 56 million deaths between 2000 and 2021, the drop in vaccination rates in 2022 to the lowest since 2008 is concerning. This decline, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores the urgent need to bolster immunization efforts worldwide. The fight against measles is a clear example of the critical importance of global health initiatives and the need for sustained commitment to ensure all children, especially those in vulnerable communities, have access to life-saving vaccines. #TheHumanitarian remains committed to supporting health equity and encourages professionals in our network to contribute their expertise towards regaining lost ground in measles prevention. For those looking to make a difference, consider how your skills could support these vital efforts. If you need assistance in aligning your experience with opportunities in global health, feel free to reach out for CV customization and application guidance. Together, we can work towards a world where no child is at risk from preventable diseases like measles. #TheHumanitarian #GlobalHealth #Vaccination #MeaslesPrevention #PublicHealth #SocialImpact

Imagine a shield protecting your community from illness. That's what herd immunity does. When enough people are immune to a disease, either through vaccination or past infection, it becomes harder for it to spread, protecting everyone, even those who can't be vaccinated. Vaccines are our key to building this shield. By getting vaccinated, you join a powerful line of defense, reducing the chance of outbreaks and safeguarding the health of everyone around you. This is especially important for those who are vulnerable, like babies, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Misinformation can weaken this shield. Let's fight back together by sharing accurate information about the benefits of vaccines. Talk to your doctor, listen to trusted sources, and share accurate information online. Together, we can build a strong shield of herd immunity. Let's protect our communities, save lives, and ensure a healthier future for all. #HerdImmunity #VaccinesWork #ProtectEachOther #PublicHealth

🚨 Measles Alert 🚨 The US and the UK are facing measles outbreaks. The virus is extremely contagious; on average, an individual with measles can spread the infection to between 12 and 18 others in a fully susceptible population. Unlike COVID-19, those with compromised immune systems cannot be vaccinated. After the COVID-19 pandemic, we are witnessing an overall rise in vaccination hesitancy. A vaccination coverage higher than 95% is essential to maintain herd immunity and avoid outbreaks. The potential for severe complications, particularly among the most vulnerable, underscores the need to reduce vaccine hesitancy. By promoting informed decisions and embracing our collective responsibility, we can protect our communities. https://lnkd.in/drxRhdKA https://lnkd.in/dcdcxGjG #MeaslesPrevention #VaccineHesitancy #CommunityHealth #PublicSafety
