Today is National Farmer's Day! To celebrate, we'd like to showcase one of our farmer-owners: Ryan and Amy Roller. The Rollers and their three young children farm approximately 90 registered Holstein cows, as well as corn, alfalfa, oats, and sorghum-sudangrass, near Hewitt, MN. Ryan and Amy, both fourth generation farmers, began farming together with Ryan's parents in 2012. They took over operation of that farm in 2023. Their farm is one of the many that supply the milk used to make your favorite Bongards® cheese! When asked what they love most about farming, they responded that they love spending their days outdoors, raising their kids on the farm, and watching "how God provides season after season." They added, "It feels like we are part of a bigger picture." Their favorite farming memory is Thanksgiving Day 2019 when - after much hard work and investment - they were able to move into their current free stall barn. The design allowed them to improve overall health, comfort, and management efficiency of their herd. The Rollers have many dreams and visions for their farm and are proud to have seen some already come to fruition since taking over the operation. We greatly appreciate the Rollers and all of our farmer-owners. Thank you for all the hard work you do to contribute to our co-op and feed the nation!

Happy National Farmer's Day 🍈🌽🥜 This is a day to honor and thank the hardworking farmers and ranchers who plow, sow, grow, and harvest to feed our nation. Supporting your local farmer is easy! Here are a few ideas: Buy fruits and vegetables from your local farmers’ markets. Many small farms sell directly to the consumer through farmers’ markets. You’ll meet the local farmers who grew your food, learn about their farming practices, and buy the freshest produce, eggs, and meat. Visit pick-your-own farms. They’ll supply everything from berries to vegetables to apples to pumpkins. Consider investing in a CSA farm share next year (CSA stands for “community-supported agriculture”). Local farmers will give you a basket of freshly-picked food every week for a true farm-to-table experience. Keep your eyes and ears out for local small-town festivals. From persimmon festivals to pawpaw festivals to garlic festivals, you’re supporting farming communities. #FarmersDay #ThankAFarmer #SupportLocalFarmers

I'm going to buy shares in Woolworths and Woodside Petroleum EWW GROSS! I know.... I will wash my hands right after, I promise. Why would I do such a crazy thing? Shareholder Activism, that's why! Shareholder Activism is like Trojan-horsing listed companies, with a box full of environmentally and socially beneficial resolutions for the board and other shareholders to consider. If you own shares, you (and 99 other activist shareholders) can bring the voice of grass-roots organisations already campaigning on specifc issues, into the boardroom of the companies creating those very issues. The Sustainable Investment Exchange has recently launched in AUS, to facilitate this very thing. You don't have to know anything about stocks or talk to any finance bros. Hooray! You just jump on, create an account, find a campaign that speaks to you and needs another activist shareholder on board, buy some shares, and they do the rest. It's tech-enabled/financial impact/collaboration-driven-genius and I am a big fan. Go forth, and activate!!! Like an almond!
After our meeting with Woolworths this week, it’s clearer than ever that if we want our supermarkets to help save the Skate then we need to get into the boardroom and make our voices heard – as investors: https://lnkd.in/gWG6wjkG You can also learn more about our campaigns and meet our campaign partners at some upcoming (free!) events: 12:30pm, Friday 9 August, 📍online: Ethical Trading and Shareholder Advocacy (Save the Skate) A virtual lunch-and-learn featuring SIX and Neighbours of Fish Farming. Get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/gt-Me8w3 5:00pm, Wednesday 14 August, 📍Hobart: Save the Skate – in conversation with Adam Verwey (SIX) and Jess Coughlan (Neighbours of Fish Farming) An in-person event in Hobart featuring SIX, Neighbours of Fish Farming and TasEthical. Eat canapés, meet fellow change-makers, and hear how you can use your shareholder power to Save the Skate. Get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/gMsqRDA7 12:30, Friday 16 August, 📍online: Ethical Trading and Shareholder Advocacy (End Gambling Ads) A virtual lunch-and-learn featuring SIX and our campaign partner the Alliance for Gambling Reform. Did you get your start on the farm with dad, mom, grandpa or another relative? It’s no surprise if you did! Nearly 98% of farms in the U.S. are family farms, which account for almost 90% of all farm production. At Outward Farms, our "ladies" are so much more than just egg-layers—they’re full of personality! When hens are truly thriving, they show it in the most delightful ways. Whether it's sunbathing in open pastures or dust-bathing with their flock, each hen has her own unique quirks that make her special. Some of our ladies love to explore every inch of the pasture, while others enjoy strutting around, showing off their beautiful feathers. And, of course, we’ve got the chatty ones who love to cluck up a storm when they spot a snack! We believe that when hens are given the space and freedom to roam, forage, and soak up the sunshine, their personalities shine through. The result? Thriving, healthier hens—and even better, more delicious eggs. 🥚 We’re proud of our lively, free-spirited hens—each one is a cherished part of the Outward Farms family! https://lnkd.in/e2vwagCr #OutwardFarms #OhioEggs #SustainableAgriculture #Agribusiness #AnimalWelfare #FoodIndustry #FarmToTable #EthicalFarming

🐣All The Steps🐣 . Every Monday we have a team huddle with all of us working together on the farm. We talk through weekly updates, what has shifted with the weather and how that changes the needs of the birds, the land and we create new processes. 🌱 Every single step it takes to create this ending photo of shipping our chicks at the post office are all completely different equally important. From proper management of the flocks, cleaning of coops, egg collecting, sorting/incubating, troubleshooting, customer servicing, hatching, sorting, brooding, packing, shipping it is a whole lot of moving parts. Our team is small, just four of us but we are mighty and joyful everyday. 💫 🌱 These chicks in these white cheerful boxes look so simple and there is a whole incredible story behind what it takes to make this stage happen. Thank you for your support of us so we can continue to do so! We are grateful to be changing the narrative of what is possible within the hatching space and how chickens are treated - YOU are a huge part of the process because without you we would not be able to do any of it. ❤️ 🌱 Do you ever look at an and product that you create or consume in your life and think about all the steps it took along the way to being complete? We would love to hear about it! What are “simple” looking things that were actually quite complex to create? Let’s learn from one another. 🥰 . . . . . . . . . . #shippingday #alchemistfarm #farmlife #complexcreation #theprocess #behindthecurtain #lookmanohands #knowyourfarmerknowyourfood #knowyourfarmer #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #weloveourjob #dreamteam #chickenhatchery #hatcherylife #smallfamilybusiness #usps #smallfamilyfarm #humanehatchery #weknowwhatsup #mailorderchicks #darlingchicks #farmlifebestlife #closetotheland

Downstream Supply Chain of an exploited industry that I see before my very eyes every morning. Transported in jam-packed crates in an overnight journey. Heads banging on the roof of the cage. Transported alongside unhealthy, partially skinned, diseased, dying and even dead colleagues. Dragged out in the morning and dumped on the ground for sun and sorting - many even kicked around. Exchanging hands at least 2-3 times - manual laborers, bike transporters and others. Tied and hanged upside down for the last mile logistics. Cries of clucking, skin particles, and foul smell permeates the environment. Deposited in dingy shops with sharp instruments, blood and body parts strewn. Caged once again. Watching screaming neighbours get pulled out, slaughtered and torn into pieces before your eyes and knowing that the same fate awaits you sooner or later. I fail to understand what possible taste and nutrition humans get that merits this ultra-horrific treatment of a sentient and a smart animal - Tens of thousands die every morning in every city and town. Billions every year around the world. Hardly anyone blinks an eye. And to know that it was a giant stroke of misfortune that triggered this industry a century ago in the USA - https://lnkd.in/gHeQA2XW. And this happens to just one type of creature - there are hundreds of others who are harvested, force-fed, force-bred, exploited, abused and eventually murdered for human cravings. I understand tons of money and stakeholders are involved but it takes a special and tragic kind of cold-heartedness to do this to fellow beings, especially when plenty of violence-free and healthy alternatives are available. I don't think Karma is real, but if it is, then so many of us should dread the outcome of this monstrosity that we do unto those without a voice. #supplychain #logistics #animalwelfare #vegetarianism #humanity #animalcruelty #mercyforanimals

Farmhouse Dinner Table > Social Media New World. Change my mind. Last week, I was invited into a farm family’s home to talk about legacy planning. I arrived and felt a warm welcome by all the pets and the entire family. We sat at the dinner table for 2 hours. I asked to hear the family’s entire story dating back to the Grandpa's chicken farming days in the 1950s. The story telling that went on in those 2 hours brought me back to why I got into this business and how this passion started 10 years ago. In my road warrior baseball days, I found a passion for talking to strangers about their journey in the airport, at the field, and in restaurants. My business & helping people talk through what they want directly relates to this. Hear the story, ask the questions, pinpoint the problem, and offer solutions. I asked some really tough questions. We went from smiling and laughing to tearing up with a crackled voice. You don't get the truth, the real & deep answer on social media most times. Being in person at the dinner table, we all connected in a way that social media will never be able to accomplish. Upon leaving the farm, I was able to tour the operation and talk more about how we can help keep the farm going through the bloodline. We will create a customized plan to outline the family tree and how each of the business entities and finances transfer down to each generation. This family is taking the first step in defining a clear vision for their farm through our process. According to Ag America, only 23% of farms have a succession plan. For the 77% of farms that don't have a plan, I hope to sit at your farm dinner table to have the same engaging conversation. #succession #agriculture #farmers
