Everyone is saying the job market is terrible. I applied to over 70 jobs, got two interviews, and made it to the final round, each time being one of two or three top candidates. Final interviews came only after 2-4 interview rounds of being asked the same questions in various ways. . This is why Imade the jump for the second time into consulting. The primary difference now is having more experience than in 2020, more opportunities, and amazing people willing to partner with me and give me an opportunity to succeed. When I resigned from my job, I didn’t know what to expect, yet leaving the traditional nonprofit space has been a desire of mine for some time. I say all this to say I’m so excited to partner with amazing consulting and nonprofit firms doing beautiful work. There has been so much providence leading up to this moment, and I am still reeling from the actuality of all. I love grant writing, and I love empowering nonprofits to do the work they do. It’s been a prayer of mine to do this work with a more flexible schedule and to WFH. Through this process, it’s like God’s been whispering to be patient and let things play out as they should. And they have. So many other things are happening behind the scenes, and I look forward to sharing more about it soon!! #grantwriting #nonprofit #fundraising #newopportunities

Hospitality Recruiter for (Event Designers / Creatives, DMCs, Meetings & Incentives, Agency, Entertainment Companies, Event Suppliers), Speaker, Event Professional. ADMEI Events Committee. MPI Volunteer.
#realization One of my favorite things to do as a recruiter is to listen and help candidates. My tagline used to be "The recruiter with a purpose," and I would donate part of my proceeds to a nonprofit of the client's choice. Nobody seemed to care about that element of give-back so I stopped doing it. Sort of shocking to me. Over the last year, I realize that my "purpose" is to help people where I can. I can be a listening ear, a resume therapist, a guidance counselor or whatever they need. Finding a job is hard. It is taxing on your soul, and candidates forget how awesome they are. I am the recruiter with a purpose - the purpose of being here for you! I have a dozen thank you cards from candidates who said I helped them when they were feeling low, that I "saw" their potential and strengths, that my advice has stuck with them. WOW - how amazing to be able to help people in that way. If I can help you in any way - I am here! ❤️ Message me on Linkedin, and let's connect. #recruiterwithapurpose #shannonconnex #hospitalityjobs

I interviewed with another Non-Profit organization back in May. I arrived approximately 20 minutes early for the interview. The scheduled start time was 9:30 am, but unfortunately, the interview didn't begin until 9:35. I couldn't help but feel that this delay was somewhat unprofessional and demonstrated a lack of consideration for my time. While it might seem like a minor delay, I couldn't help but reflect on how I would be perceived if I had arrived to the interview 5 minutes late without an apology or explanation – it would have reflected negatively on my reliability, punctuality, and professionalism. The interview turned out to be quite lengthy, extending well beyond an hour, leaving me feeling emotionally drained, among other reasons. Upon returning home, I laid down on my living room floor to recuperate before heading to work. In hindsight, it became evident that this organization wasn't the right fit for me. However, every experience has its silver lining, and I gained valuable interview experience that will better prepare me for future opportunities. Moral of this story is to NEVER SETTLE. If you have reservations about a job or a gut feeling that it isn't the right fit, resist the urge to accept it out of desperation to earn more money or a desire to leave your current position. There is always a better opportunity waiting for you with your name on it. #candidateexperience #interviews #professionalism #nonprofits
