🌍 Reflecting on a year of growth: 2023 In 2023, we witnessed tremendous growth within the Association and the Wine in Moderation programme worldwide. Mezzacorona was the fifth company to join the prestigious Ambassador Companies with the commitment to promote responsible wine consumption. Luca Rigotti, President of Mezzacorona Group said “We are thrilled to partner with Wine in Moderation and become an Ambassador Company for the programme. Our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility extends beyond our vineyards and winemaking practices. We are dedicated to promoting responsible wine consumption and educating our consumers on the importance of moderation.”🍇 In the frame of our new membership scheme, we also took the opportunity to reconnect with our partners and were thrilled to renew our partnership with FIVS, reinforcing the wine sector’s global commitment to discourage the harmful use of alcoholic beverages. In parallel, the programme consistently continued to attract new supporters across the wine value chain, including wine producers, wine writers, and wine shop managers. These supporters, spread out on a global scale, play a crucial role in disseminating the message of moderation and imparting knowledge to fellow professionals and consumers alike. As the programme expands, our dedication to fostering a sustainable wine culture only strengthens. When Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) was launched, the wellbeing of the environment became a thread running through conversations and decisions in the growing, making and selling of New Zealand wine. Thirty years on, the groundbreaking SWNZ programme is woven into the story of Aotearoa wine, setting it apart from the rest of the world. SWNZ has evolved into a robust, independently audited programme that now certifies 96% of New Zealand’s vineyard area and approximately 90% of wine production by volume. Do you love wine? A study published in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment found that #climatechange is "affecting grape yield, composition and wine quality", impacting the coastal and lowland regions of Spain, Italy, Greece and Southern California — well known traditional wine producers . Other regions may become more suitable for growing grapes - Washington State, Oregon, Tasmania and Northern France. The study pointed at the emergence of new wine regions, such as southern United Kingdom. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees on the quality of the "new wine" production, and these areas may also experience new pathogens and insects that can impact #agriculture and overall #environmental and #human health.
