I'm not sure what the collective noun for a group of event controllers is, but I am sure there’s a suitable word to describe such methodical and calm brains. This month's edition of StandOut Magazine (Stand Out Live Events Magazine) has been an interesting one, as I have talked with so many event professionals to learn all there is about running a good event control room (ECR). From killer incident management software to a room layout that’s conducive to dynamic comms and more. To quote some of those we have interviewed this month, watching a rockstar event controller is akin to watching a conductor lead an orchestra. It’s magical and harmonious even in the most tense situations. If you turn to page 29, you can read all about ECRs in our dedicated feature that takes an in-depth look at command and control best practices – including pay, radio etiquette and the relevance of social media – which I believe will be a hot topic in 2025. With the impending introduction of Martyn’s Law, a new legal precedent being set in court which will impact how the police are willing to deal with protestors at events, and SAG guidance being reviewed, I believe that safety will be high on the agenda over the next 12 months. And rightly so because we all want fabulous events to be safe regardless of whether we are organising them, supplying services to them or attending them as a customer. I spent so much of 2024 in a field in a high viz and steelies that I could not help but witness first-hand the safety processes and methodical planning that go into world-class events and festivals. What’s interesting is that every organiser has their own way of doing something and it’s these insights that I hope to share even more of as 2025 gets underway. Frankly, I can’t believe another year has passed and that we are all now firmly focused on a new event season. I hope that we can move forward and things begin to settle down. Whilst a myriad of events have been cancelled, more and more are launching, which makes me smile. As StandOut prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, to see new events continuously emerging signifies that regardless of what has been before, new shoots will always appear. This year, I hope to be back out on-site, chatting to as many #Eventprofs as I possibly can. In the meantime, make a brew and have a read of the latest issue (link below) and ease yourself back into 2025. And if you have news to share, please drop me a note. I'm particularly interested to hear from you if you are doing cool things on your event site around welfare – audience welfare, crew welfare, team welfare, you name it... See you in a field soon. Over and out... #EventControl #EventSafety #EventOperations #Events https://lnkd.in/ePy-t6fx

You can be the best Event Marketer in the world. But if you work at a company that doesn’t value events. You’re wasting your time. No upward mobility. No budget growth. No seat at the table. You have two options. 1. Find a way to show the C-suite the value of events. 2. Find a company where you can show the world the impact of events. --- At Accelevents, we work with some of the best event teams in the world where management gets events. If we can be a resource or make an intro, let us know.

Piggy backing on the thoughts of Jonathan Kazarian below. I believe the C-suite understands the negative impact of a poorly executed event. However, their concerns often seem to stop at the coordination level, without extending to the broader strategic implications. In my experience, live event strategy requires significant effort to ensure the execution aligns with the nuances of the business's challenges and objectives. A misaligned event can have serious repercussions for the brand. For instance, if Brand X is trying to position itself as a trusted partner in its field, but potential clients perceive it as a large, profit-driven conglomerate, hosting a lavish, over-the-top gala at a major convention—regardless of how well it’s coordinated—could reinforce that negative perception and damage the brand. Effective event strategy must align with and support the business objectives, not just be well coordinated. Often, excellent event strategy requires the left hand, the right hand, and all feet to communicate holistically across the organization. And let’s be honest—most organizations struggle to get even the fingers to talk to each other!
