The XB-1 demonstrator is the world’s first independently developed supersonic jet. Its development paves the way for Boom’s supersonic airliner, Overture. 22 months of testing ✅ 11 flight tests ✅ Target date for XB-1’s first supersonic flight set ✅ Entire crew pumped ✅ On Jan. 28, 2025, at 9:45 a.m. CST, Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg will break the sound barrier in #XB1 – going Mach 1.1 – at 34,000 ft. in the Bell X-1 Supersonic Corridor and the Black Mountain Supersonic Corridor in Mojave, California. Boom Supersonic's XB-1 demonstrator aircraft made history today by breaking the sound barrier three times during its 12th test flight from Mojave Air & Space Port in California. The aircraft reached Mach 1.1 at an altitude of 35,000 feet, marking the first time a civil aircraft has gone supersonic over the continental United States.
