Hi DJ, what’s your current role at the Bank? – JK
Region Manager. Originally for the central coast and took on northern region. I have the privilege of leading somewhere around 67 branches with my main focus on production and annual goals and targets and managing Area Managers. – DJ
What inspired you to pursue a career in banking? – JK
I was looking for a job with an opportunity to work outside of the home after being a stay-at-home mother. I started working part time in a branch in King City. I loved that I was able to still care for my family and begin working again. I really wanted to be able to do both and banking gave me that opportunity. I eventually added more and more hours as I was able to and eventually became Branch Manager. – DJ
In what ways do you strive to empower and support other women in the field of finance? – JK
Through mentorship and encouraging women to seek mentors in addition to encouraging networking and women to build professional networks and support in the industry. I also encourage work-life balance and women to seek opportunities that support that. We don’t celebrate exhaustion on my team. I believe in investing and supporting training and the professional development of women.
Can you share a particularly memorable or rewarding experience you've had while working at Mechanics Bank? – JK
For me, it’s an accumulation of the people I’ve gotten to work with, mentors I’ve had, the lessons I’ve learned that will last well beyond this actual job. That’s what is meaningful. It’s also what I want to do for others. It’s interesting to think of the lasting impressions you make, that you may not even realize along the way. We all have the ability to make that lasting positive impact.
What advice would you give to young women who are aspiring to succeed in the banking industry? – JK
Choose a career path that aligns with their strengths and aspirations. If you choose a career that works for you, you’ll be successful. Make a difference and positive impact on team members and individuals you meet along the way. As you grow personally, you will have opportunities to grow in your career. It will offer a stable, lucrative career as you grow. Stay up to date with technology and embrace the ever evolving and exciting industry. The ability to help individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals, because that’s what’s fulfilling. Inspire other women and understand that you are a role model to other women that are watching.
