🩺 97% of nurses cite pay as their primary motivation to take travel assignments. But the story doesn’t end there. I got to sit down with Patti Artley, Chief Nursing Officer at Medical Solutions, for the latest episode of Gigging Out. We dug into the Voices of Care survey results with data from 7,000 RNs. While pay is undeniably a major factor, the No. 2 reason (selected by 85% of respondents) was to escape workplace politics 🤯 Creating supportive, healthy work environments is critical to cut burnout and attract talent. Patti talks about how staffing companies and facilities can do this effectively. The full episode is a must-listen for anyone in healthcare staffing 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRqb5q9j #staffing #healthcare #healthcarestaffing

Christopher Friese and team have new evidence showing nurses are faring better in 2023 relative to 2022: less burnout, less job dissatisfaction, fewer experiences of workplace violence, fewer instances of understaffing during a recent shift, and less frequent mandatory overtime. 📢 But the good news ends there... 41% of nurses are still working understaffed 43% of nurses are still experiencing workplace violence in the past year 32% of nurses are still planning to leave their employer within the year See my commentary on how hospital employers and state/federal legislators can ⭐ *leverage evidence based solutions* ⭐ to the ongoing problems hospitals face with turnover and retention: https://lnkd.in/ezB9gYxm
Important new data from our team out today in JAMA Network Open: nurse intention to leave is stubbornly high at over 30% yet most local and gov intervention remains stuck on supply, not retention. Expect more workforce instability with continued inaction. https://lnkd.in/eM-7E5HU

Many years ago, deep in hospital operations and clinical quality improvement, I came to think of the agency nursing model like the unemployment rate - even when our health system is at it's healthiest, could we ever be at zero? This is a short, thoughtful piece from the CBC/Radio-Canada on the prevalence of agency nursing. It highlights the nuances of staffing needs in remote/rural environments, the gender and hierarchy of this important profession, as well as some of the important strategies that are underway (such as nurse-to-patient ratio) to help better manage the risks (financial, quality, culture). #nursetopatientratio #nursingleaderhip #clinicalstaffing #healthqualityimprovement #healthsystemsustainability #clinicalculture https://lnkd.in/eNNhsyg9

Healthcare Leader and Life & Wellness Coach for healthcare professionals. Especially passionate about Nurses unlocking their potential.
I really love this article and its review of the current literature in the #Nursing context. I do think that we can learn a lot from other non-healthcare experts on staffing shortages and burnout as well. Specifically, I have found Jennifer Moss's work on #Burnout and #Retention to be especially insightful and thought provoking. It can be hard to implement "business" recommendations in the public healthcare world however, since system factors and characteristics tend to be limiting. For example Healthcare managers with 100+ direct reports, as well as the fee-for-service model or payment-for-results requirements. However, I do believe it is time we take a deep dive in to system re-design where we consider both employee experience and patient experience to improve the overall #humanexperience in healthcare. https://lnkd.in/gVReADHw
