Why is it so difficult for Portfolio Managers and Traders to transition into a new fund or trading house? Over promise… I was having a conversation recently to provide background on an upcoming article. It was ostensibly around HF hiring but the question around success rate for new hires came up and the supposition was that it was down to the individual over promising on their historical performance, or their ability to manage size or to recreate analytical edge, etc. In our experience low transition success rate of new investment hires is usually down to an over promise from the hiring fund itself. This can be due to lack of capital/risk appetite/lack of systems capability or lack of ability to support investment leaders with new team hires. The top tier funds with successful long term hiring are aware of their strengths but equally aware of their weaknesses and screen for fit against both sides of the coin. H.W. Positive signs across the Investment Markets ● Goldman Sachs is increasing Credit Lines for Private Equity firms, as deal making grows ● The ADGM is reporting a surge in AUM, and an influx of international managers ● The DIFC saw over 5,000 new jobs created in 2023, with numbers continuing to grow in Q1 (in an area of just 110 acres) ● We're seeing existing clients in the region increase the volume of Institutional Sales & Investment roles, and we're receiving record numbers of inbound investment clients looking to hire ● Sovereigns are reaching new AUM records, and we're seeing several new Sovereign subsidiaries and cross-country Sovereign JVs ● Older news, but the UAE has been removed from the FATF grey list, potentially increasing investor confidence in the region ● Hedge Funds continue to relocate senior traders and PMs to the region

We have multiple mandates in this sector. *Broad demand for VP level candidates with bulge bracket firm experience. *Global investment banks with a strong focus on the mid market are in growth mode. *A percentage of Bankers working with boutiques aspire to join bulge bracket firms due to the perception of more complex deal exposure. * A significant number of candidates quote a lack of work/life balance as a consideration when reviewing opportunities. *At the Analyst & Associate level, a small number of bankers are keen to be considered for overseas postings. New York and London are the favoured destinations.
