"The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live.” - Mortimer Adler Yes, I can say boldly, that the ongoing Teach4SDGs program has contributed to my growth in the knowledge of sustainable development. One of the topics "Circular Economy and Sustainable Waste Management" has widened my knowledge about the collective responsibility of humans as consumers. We take materials from the earth, make use of them, and eventually throw them away as waste which affects the community where we live. There is a better way to do this, the resources that we use day by day can be reused and recycled to minimize waste and create a sustainable economic model. When we do this, we are saying yes to good public health, making the world a better place for ourselves and even future generations to come. #Sustainabledevelopmentgoals #teach4SDGs

Don't get in a spin about getting circular - just get into the loop with the loopies. 🔄 Education is swiftly moving into the circular economy with the passing of circular economy bills. The focus is on making the best use of resources, reducing our carbon footprint, and minimizing waste. It's a perfect way for our young people to take action towards climate chaos reduction, better waste management, energy and water conservation, and sustainable developments. Especially as a college student who has thoughts of building their own business and how I can take action to ensure I am taking care to be mindful of my impact on the planet. I will definitely be taking better care to ensure my waste is being disposed of correctly and reusing products as much as I can instead of throwing out away and creating unneeded waste, I will pass on this information to my peers where I can." #CircularEconomy #GreenMinds

The #InternationalDayOfZeroWaste is yet another opportunity to highlight the profound impact of #WASH on the #sustainability of our planet and the significance of altering our individual and collective behaviours. “Catch them young” is an adage one often hears when discussing behaviour change, but how is not often discussed. Based on my my own (with Poonam Lodha) experience of trying to raise a kid, I think an incredibly effective avenue is through children’s #literature 📖 Children’s books are designed to spark curiosity, ignite imagination, and shape attitudes from a tender age. By introducing stories that delve into the complex world of waste management, including sanitation workers who often face stigma, we can influence young minds and hopefully plant seeds of change we all wish to see. One can think of myriad stories waiting to be discovered. They include the heroic tales of Bezwada Wilson, Late Bindeshwar Pathak, Afroz Shah, Sheela Patel, and many others. They also include educational narratives explaining the importance of segregating, composting, reducing, reusing, and recycling, #RRR. Besides entertainment, these books have the potential to educate; fostering a generation that sees the waste problem as an opportunity to bring about a positive change. The impact of such literary experiences goes beyond mere entertainment. They cultivate empathy, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the environment. By empowering the future generation with awareness, we could nurture a generation poised to tackle the challenge with determination. As we observe the International Day of Zero Waste, let us commit to investing in resources that empower our youth. Let’s champion initiatives that bring sustainability education into schools, libraries, and homes all over. Let’s catch them young and together, create a world where waste is not just managed but minimised, where every action contributes to a cleaner, greener, tomorrow. #BehaviourChangeCommunication #EducationForChange Dr. George Wainaina Chaiwe Mushauko Arne Panesar Alexandra Dubois Sean Furey Lourdes Valenzuela

🌍 Happy World Environment Day! 🌱 As we mark this important day, let's take a moment to reflect on the 2024 theme: "Restore Our Earth." This year's theme emphasizes the urgent need to rejuvenate our planet and embrace sustainable practices. As a social science teacher, I believe education is a powerful tool in fostering environmental stewardship. Our classrooms are not just places of learning but also platforms for inspiring action and responsibility. It's crucial for us to recognize our role as consumers of natural resources. Every choice we make has an impact. From the food we eat to the products we use, our daily decisions can either contribute to the problem or become part of the solution. Let's commit to: - Reducing waste and embracing recycling. - Supporting sustainable and ethical products. - Conserving energy and water. - Advocating for policies that protect our environment. Together, we can make a difference. Let's teach, inspire, and lead by example to ensure a healthier planet for future generations. #WorldEnvironmentDay #RestoreOurEarth #Sustainability #EnvironmentalEducation #SocialScienceTeacher

🌍 Excited to share my journey with the #Teach4SDGs Cohort 4 Workshop Series! 🌱 Since starting on May 3rd, this series has been an incredible journey of learning and growth. Each workshop has been packed with valuable insights and practical knowledge aimed at promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). On this very May 17th 2024, I had the pleasure of attending the second workshop focused on #Circular Economy and Sustainable Waste Management, led by the insightful Deborah Edward. #Deborah introduced us to the concept of a circular economy, which aims to eliminate waste and promote the continual use of resources. We explored various types and real-world case studies that underscored the importance of sustainable waste management in reducing environmental impact, conserving resources, and supporting economic growth. Maintaining sustainable waste management is crucial for ensuring a healthier planet for future generations. Reflecting on the workshops from May 3rd and 10th, I am inspired by the depth of knowledge and the commitment of everyone involved. The Teach4SDGs series is not only enhancing my understanding of sustainable practices but also empowering me to advocate for and implement these practices in my own environment. I encourage everyone to embrace the principles of the SDGs and incorporate them into your personal and professional lives. Let's work together to create a more sustainable and equitable world. 🌏💚 #Teach4SDGs #SustainableDevelopment #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #Sustainability #Empowerment #LearningJourney #SDGs

Our commitment to environmental stewardship took a groundbreaking turn as we engaged in the #WastetoEducation program. Eko pens for kids with seeds to promote sustainability in Pictures Instead of letting electronic waste clutter our landfills, we've partnered with innovative initiatives to channel this waste back into our schools. Today, we witnessed the tangible impact of this program as our students and staff brought in their old electronics, paving the way for a greener tomorrow. In return for their contributions, our community received sustainability products that not only promote eco-conscious living but also serve as educational tools. By transforming waste into resources and fostering a culture of sustainability within our educational institutions, we're not just teaching about environmental responsibility; we're living it. Together, we're rewriting the narrative on waste management and empowering the next generation to be catalysts for positive change. #WasteToEducation #Sustainability #GreenEducation #EnvironmentalStewardship #EducationForChange
