🎉 Black-owned businesses have significantly contributed to the economy over the past decade. According to a 2020 report by the U.S. Census Bureau, Black-owned businesses in the United States generated approximately $150.2 billion in annual revenue. The number of Black-owned businesses has also been growing steadily, with a 34% increase from 2007 to 2012 and continued growth in the following years. Despite facing unique challenges, Black entrepreneurs have continued to innovate and thrive in across multiple industries, contributing to the overall economic landscape of Boston and beyond! ◾ In Recognition of Black Business Month ◾ One of the key reasons #BlackBusinessMonth exists is to address the significant disparity in financial support and opportunities for Black entrepreneurs (DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, 2024). Despite the challenges, Black-owned businesses continue to thrive, particularly in essential sectors like #healthcare and #socialservices (Pew Research Center, 2024). As August begins, we recognize Black Business Month, a time to honor the achievements and contributions of Black entrepreneurs nationwide. As a Black woman entrepreneur, I am proud to share my reflections during this meaningful month. Being a Black woman in entrepreneurship has been both challenging and rewarding. The path to building and growing a business is filled with both obstacles and opportunities for growth, innovation, and community impact. My experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my vision. Black Business Month is a call to action highlighting Black-owned businesses' vital role in our economy and communities. Our businesses create jobs, foster economic growth, and serve as community pillars. However, we face unique challenges, such as limited access to capital, systemic bias, and lack of visibility. Black Business Month highlights these issues and encourages support and upliftment of Black entrepreneurs. Thank you for supporting Black businesses - not just this month, but every day.
